Horizons Coming back to this game...

So I'm thinking about coming back to this game which I last touched in January 2015, taking my Asp out of retirement and seeing what's going on.

Apart from being able to land on planets and go and see engineers, what's changed? (And how *do* you land on a planet? Don't want to smash that Asp into one right away)

Also does anyone know if downloading E:D Horizons is the only thing I need to do or are there other expansions that I need to download to get all the features that have been released?

Many thanks for your help

First, ED should download everything. I think.
Just make sure the launcher is blue!

Landing on [Low G] planets is easy, make sure ED is running Horizons. And your ship should be automatically fitted with a new free module. I forgot the name. Lol
And you can buy a vehicle hanger, and some SRVs!

Then simply fly to any planet with a blue icon over it (in the Nav panel), and slow down as you approach Orbital cruise.
Then keep the throttle in the blue zone and descend at anything between -55 and -15, when you get to around 25km altitude, you will drop to a 'glide'.
Gliding is fun and takes you right down to 5-10km from the surface quickly.
You are then in normal flight.

Look for a flat spot and drop down a few 100m and slow down, then lower landing gear. Scoot about at around 50m, at 50m/s until your ship lights up blue. Then plonk yourself down.

To take off, HOLD lateral thrust Up until your engines start. Done!

If you took an SRV, you can deploy that via the roles panel (look down).
To get back in your ship, drive directly under the hangars orange collar, until the 'Board light' is lit. Then use roles to board.

Landing is easy and safe below 0.5G, and becomes harder after that.
Driving SRVs on the other hand is easier at 1.0 to 2.0G. lol

Avoid 6+G until you are confident!

Welcome back.

It is advisable to have your shields on if you touch down on the planet other than at a base - damage can happen, as well as accidents (shields saved me from more than 50% hull damage in an accident while landing).

And watch out for hostile NPC ships which can intercept you in space and down on planets now. Fun though.

Thanks all.

I have to say the game is a lot sharper now than it was a couple of years ago and I'm doing some missions around "my" planet to get back into the swing of things. Then I might try a bit of drone-assisted mining, I did plenty of mining 'back in the day' and if it has scaled up I could give it another run.

Then maybe some more exploration (which is, obviously, what I got the Asp for!)
