Commander Chronicles ... Leena???

So I'm a bit late to seeing the trailer, but I just saw it and I have to ask... who the bloody hell is this "Leena" and how come she gets a call from Ram Tah about investigating the Guardians stuff and fighting Thargoids and first dibs on his new tech over us players? Who the hell is she?

I know the past games had commanders like Jameson and that's fine, his legacy and all, but I thought Elite Dangerous was supposed to be about us, not some NPCs in the occasional trailer being the focus of what little remnants of story exist in this game? At least the previous trailer when we got AX weapons didn't put a name to any of the commanders in it so it could have been anyone, maybe I'm being a little to judgemental or harsh but I'd rather not have OUR thunder stolen by damn npc's we don't give to craps about. At least Salome was interesting and in the damn books and she wasn't even a true integral piece of the story in the end since people were discovering her stuff before her death.

I just don't like seeing some random NPC be the center of attention when us nameless commanders were the ones who investigated the Guardian ruins, solved the puzzles, got his data logs on it, only for this "Leena" to come in and be all chummy with him over us. What next, is anime princess Aisling gonna be in a cinematic in her dress flying a combat ship against the Thargoids?

"Cinematic trailers don't necessarily represent the gameplay" rule, maybe?

Normally I'd agree but they went out of their way to name her instead of him just saying "Commander" and leaving who she is up to just roll of the dice for the character. I really don't like that. Yeah it's not my game and I don't own it, but when you invest this much time into a game, I kinda expect for me and other commanders to be the Big Cheese, not some NPC they made up. Jameson and his like are dead, we are the heroes now.

He's just a sucker for a girl with a crew-cut & a Scottish accent...& I think she's also his deep fried Mars bars supplier - he just loves 'em! [big grin]

Odd thing to complain about really.

Leena is just a representation of a random commander.

Her having direct contact with Ram Tah is just a representation of a random commander having him unlocked - also, of his recent call out in GalNet (play Galnet audio to find out about it)

Leena is getting nothign special we don't get, it's just that, in a cinematic trailer, you make things cinematic.

They could have just had a video from in game inside a cockpit with them playing the galnet audio message about Ram Tah's call out to commanders, but that wouldn't have been as cool I don't think.

I don't know. I mean, I'd like to believe that and we will see, but I really think FD just went for the cool effect. :)

As for me, Leena is a CMDR who has a very good partnership with Ram Tah, like a player with max reputation with this engineer. In short, she's "us". In that sense, the Chronicles are helping to "use your imagination" and get your "immersion". Pretty efficient as far as I'm concerned.

Even though, I still won't frag the bugs as long as they limit themselves to Aegis spanking, when she's clearly bloodthirsty. Trigger happy vs trigger hippie complex if you like :D

Regarding your last paragraph - This Leena character might have been the FIRST to discover the ruins, but instead of blabbing about it on Galnet, only told Ram Tah about her discoveries? After all, he was the one who sent her on the mission, stands to reason that she confided to him and him alone about her discoveries? Seems a little presumptuous to think some 'nameless commander' was the first to find the ruins, given the help Leena received directly from Ram Tah!

except thats frontier story writing, not us players which is the issue.
