Commander name registry

I've just purchased the alpha and was wondering do you need to be a backer to register a commander name?

p.s. sorry if a thread like this is already going

Good question. I think thats a new one. Your best bet would be to contact the community Manager Mark Boss.

For now, yes, only the names that were requested by backers from earlier purchases are linked to their owners; for new buyers currently there is no name-selection system.

Obviously this will change in later stages - you won't be stuck with the game calling you AlphaBacker#12345. That's just.. a temporary thing during tests.

Registering you commander name before game release (or gamma phase?) was a KickStarter reward.

This means that now you're Alpha Backer #XXXXX* for a while, until FD implements some way of registering the Commander Name gain. Probably this will happen in game, when starting new Commander.

*XXXXX being a five-digit number

P.S
Welcome to the crowd!
If you don't already have access to the Alpha Discussion Forum, you might want to PM Mark Boss or send an e-mail about it to support<*at*>zaonce.net, they'll sort it out in a few business days.

EDIT: partially ninja'd by X2Eliah :)

Only just on Topic:
Are the NPC Names in the Alpha already the ones the backers registered?
And if yes: Is there a List of already encountered NPCs?
I would like to know if somebody already got into a fight with my wife. :p

No. They are a amalgamation of TV / Film character names the devs have thrown together

I will be delighted if ever I see Thongor Wugaboo in the elite universe. (my very old rpg character name from my childhood)

however, and perhaps someone better than me can confirm...

I dont think it works like that.

I think they take the 1st and last name and put them into a giant hat and mix it all up.*

*ideally they will do that AS WELL as adding in the complete names, but someone else will need to confirm if that is the case :)

Now then ... I can confirm what will happen (because Mr Brookes was asked about this). Michael said they would split the NPC names into buckets for first and last names, at which point I pointed out that they'd have to use the whole name as well, because some people have named their NPC after deceased loved ones and it would be disrespectful not only to the dear departed, but to the backer, to not use the whole name, to which I believe Mr Brookes relented. (would Michael care to confirm this?)

that would be great, and makes sense. I cant imagine it would create any more work to allow the exact names to go in, as well as them jumbled in out of a hat.
