This is probably listed somewhere but I can't find it anywhere so I'm hoping you kind gentlemen here can help with this.


How do I change the commander name? See, I misunderstood when I entered it, and did not use my proper username.

I don't think you can - at least, not without the help of Frontier Support, and you'd need a damn good reason.
Or are you talking about something different?

If you ask they may let you change your mind.

they let me change my reserved name, dont forget though you'll be able to have three commanders per account, so you just name a new one whatever you want.

I confess, I never played the original games, I grew up in South Africa where TV was pretty rare in the early 80's and computers were unheard of.

When they asked for my commander name, I didn't realize that was the avatar name. I thought it was the name of my superior officer. I know, totally a rookie mistake.

I'll could support if I can change it, but if you say we get 3 commanders in-game, then I might not bother.

I believe you can have 3 save games on the go but they each have the same Commander name. I would PM Ashely Barley or Mark Boss and see what they can do.

My understanding is it cannot be changed until a later Alpha/Beta release. For those who did the KS campaign they of course assigned themselves a name.

For the rest of us, we just have to wait...

You can have separate characters with different names. You probably don't even HAVE to use the reserved commander name if you don't want to. That is, the name is reserved for your use, but you are not obligated to use it.

It would be silly if my female rookie Federation pilot would have to carry the same name as my male, middle-aged, disillusioned trader travelling in Frontier systems.

In any case, changing the names and creating additional characters will probably be possible in the Beta or Gamma phase.

FD are helpful, and it's not like you're asking for money back. I'd contact Ashley and explain you didn't understand how it worked and they might let you change the name. No guarantees, however - and they are pretty busy at the moment.

Probably so, yes. Not that difficult to achieve with all firstname/lastname combinations that one can think of.

As long as we don't end up with "John Kiirk" and "Jack Kirkh" etc... :/

Yeah, I don't want to bother with them with something so trivial. I'll wait and see what the Beta brings, and ask then if it becomes clear it's not going to be easy for me to do.
