Community Event / Creation Commanders - Are you Well-Represented?

Does your Commander have a logo to represent them? I'm a firm believer in such things and well, back in the Nineties created one for the character known as Cmdr. Jannah Berihn which never saw the light of day. Recently I re-created it (see below).

I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has taken to doing this. The art shown here is due to be used in some fan-fiction work I'm compiling at the moment.

Writing a general sci-fi book, set it in the Elite universe, but not obviously so, not flauntingly so, might encourage people to pick it up and read it. It can have a small introduction explaining that it's based in the Elite universe but is a stand alone sci-fi novel, backed up by some good reviews, that will encourage the reader to go on, and eventually fall in love with the Elite universe, and become another member hopefully.

Thanks for taking an interest, commander and yes, that's the idea. At the moment I toy with small snippets of ELITE themed fiction, but really want to do more. The character Jannah Berihn (and longhaul Outpost) were at one time quite popular in the Elite community of the Nineties and early 2000's, and she even has her own entries at the Elite timeline, although I have noticed that the name Berihn (pronounced: burr-rin) is sometimes mis-spelt. I've been an avid RP writer with the Elite community since the late Eighties, but at the time a lot of that was published in privately published fanzines dedicated to the original Acornsoft ELITE game.

It would be great if you could have your own emblem on your ship. maybe if it worked how Arma handles emblem/patches for clans.

Perhaps Frontier Developments PLC can offer a solution. Mine would be to allow the import of a logo or emblem which has a set size - so many pixels wide by high - and with an established color base which after it has been accepted as not being copyrighted material or obscene or likely to cause offence be provided to you as an option in the outfitting livery section of the game. You would see it, so would anyone else who you come into contact with, but bear in mind that if you have another person approach you the logo would be sent to their machine also as it would not be locally held content.

I play another game, it's called Guild Wars 2 (if we can eventually wander around as we do in GW2 in ELITE that would be amazing) and I often run into other players with exotic armor and weapons, but ALL of those items are already in the library files on my computer and all that the server does is sort out which NPC/user is wearing and how they look and render it locally on my machine. The same is true of Elite: Dangerous I'm sure. Anyway, given that the face/body data for people is sent to my machine and is not located on my hard drive it is within reason that a logo, especially if it is only a megabyte or two in size can be sent without slowing down the game significantly. Fact is, if you happen to come across another players vessel and they have a unique logo, perhaps Elite; Dangerous can STORE that logo locally so it can be recalled without having to download it every time you encounter that person/vessel. They're a smart lot at FDL so I'm sure they have already figured all of this stuff out.
