Commanders, help me plot an artistic route.

Astronaut-Nikon.png

Fellow explorers,

After all the help I got from this thread, I managed to buy and fit my ASP. Now, it's time to set sail.

I work as Creative Director (advertising) and my hidden passion is animation and games, therefore, machinima. That said, I'm making preparations to capture my exploration footage, edit, and deliver a (hopefully) delightful opera. The movie will feature original score, created by a professional musician (someone I really admire). I've 'storyboarded' some of the potential camera angles, sequences and alternative ways to visually explore Elite Dangerous landscapes. This can get pretty cool.

Your help here will be invaluable! I need to plot an intelligent route that could make the most of my travel time by aligning the prettiest (or scariest) places in a efficient order. I need to find out which milestones I could add, and what's the best order to explore them. There is no deadline for the journey - you can consider any place on the galaxy.

Your input will be most appreciated.

Hey pilot. Remember to take in the NGC 7822 nebula. We chatted in game and I was heading out there.. Well I got side tracked and never made it.

Sure thing master YoBuck! The very idea to make an extensive pre-flight plan came from that chat of ours, at that moment. I'm so excited. Took me more than I expected to achieve the proper gear for this lol.

What happened to your route?

I went around the back. If you look on the Galaxy map I crossed to the outer spiral the headed back in the the nebula but it was so sparse for stars I had to back track. I got within 300ly about 10 jumps of the nebula but could not plot a route through.
It was pretty scary just trying to plot a route out of there. All together my little journey was about 5000ly and I made 5m or so.
Put my name on loads of systems but never did find an earth like.

Definitely check out the Orion Nebula area. There are several incredible, beautiful nebula in that region: the Witchhead Nebula, the Spirograph Nebula (only one system, so make sure to view it from a neighboring system, then jump into it to see the inside), Barnard's Loop, the Flame Nebula, the Horsehead Nebula (my favorite out of all of the above).

Edit: I just noticed your previous thread, that you wanted to go to Sag A*. The Orion Nebulae are about 1000ly in the wrong direction, but in my opinion, totally worth the visit.

On your way back from there, you can stop by Betelgeuse and the Pleaides.

I strongly recommend the ED youtube videos from "Dr. Kaii" , https://www.youtube.com/user/DrKaiiTaicho
His first survey video shows how beautiful the view from the far top of the galaxy is.

Hint: you don´t need to get that far out for spectacular views. It´s not all about nebulas. You could also watch videos from Erimus and ObsidianAnt for further examples.

You want to seek out anomalies. There are threads where people have discovered things that are scientifically questionable: stations that orbit right on the edge of the planetary collision ring, suns too close together, neutron stars overlapping regular stars, the starfield in the core, stuff like that. Pay attention to those threads! They offer a goldmine for strange and interesting shots.

EDIT: must add, Photoshop is your friend! You can always move elements around in there, add or take away saturation, play with the gamma curve, shift the hue... nobody here will know or question your motives!

Also: if you're going to tell us about storyboards, you must show your storyboards!!

EDIT 2... you hiring...?

Thanks for all the feedback commanders!

FalconFly, that was most insightful! You have a fine artistic eye sir. I've saved your tips on my Journey Journal already.

Friends, I've searched for some of the nebulaes online. Turns out that their real life code (below) couldn't be find within Elite. Am I doing something wrong?

IC 2118 - Witchhead Nebula
IC 418 - Spirograph

Twelvefield, you are right: lot's of post production! I plan to include some "natural" camera shaking and color treatment, like I would do with common footage. And I don't want to sound like , but I would love to work on this quietly and deliver the whole thing edited - anyway, storyboards right now are a raw mixture of wild lines depicting something that only makes sense at my mind :p

It's kinda tough to give specifc Systems or Sectors.

Maybe you find some inspiration or ideas from those...

Awesome pics!

I know you are looking for serious input - but I can't resist suggesting you plot a route to trace out a galactic C&B ;)

Wow, precious sutff man!

Do you know if (how) can I get a bigger zoom out range at debug cam? Possible?

Edit: Master Falcon, just did a SFX test at Atlas A (Pleiades area). It's simply astonishing. How did I miss that? So much good taste was put on it, I dare saying, better than in the original score from the game.

You can just search in the galaxy map for the colloquial name of a nebula and it will take you there.

Thanks FalconFly. I'll make some experiments with rotoscope approach for that. Masking might do the trick.

And thanks Saint242! Interestingly, I was actually heading those nebula regions you where mentioning (visually aided only), Witch Head, Horse head, etc. Pretty cool places. From there, I guess I´ll be heading to NGC 7822 as YoBuck suggested.

YoBuck my friend! I just payed a visit to NGC 7822 - what an awesome place!

attachment.php

Almost half of the star systems there had a black hole in it.

And there was this interesting one, with 2 BH's.

I captured some footage of it against the galaxy background - it came out as a "Gargantuan Poor Cousin" lol.

I finished the circuit of all the close-and-pretty-nebulaes (6k ly trip) suggested here.

Now it´s time to get abyssal *takes deep breath*

Heading to the core, from NGC 7822 - any specially photogenic places in the way?
