Commercial release OR may be announced "Soon"

It sounds to me like this is a case of oversight editing. I believe this was the same conference in which Brendan said that the release is more than a couple of months but less than years away.

I could be wrong though.

If we have to get 90 fps on 1440p, gtx980 x2 sli is the minimum spec :/

This is the killer issue. It seems that VR needs a Godzilla rig to hit the mark. It makes me wonder if we're still 2-3 years away.

I am ready for CV1.... my CC is standing by!
$$ CHA-CHING $$
.
But, I really don't see full commercial release until early 2016, because of hardware and software limitations.

I hope they come soon out and is Aviable without a big delay of Shiping.

Probably gonna be end of 2015. We need those new GPUs and Nvidia/AMD to work on VR optimization.

I'll be ready for it though. My DK2 will be of good use until CV1 hits.

True gamer = rich people?

Not really. True "gamers" will typically have very, to extremely, high end PC's. Maybe 4 years ago, these types of machines were only for "rich" people, or rather, people that spent their "hobby money" on computer equipment rather than things such as, social lives. Today, you can get a high end computer for ~$1,500 if that. At that price point, you will be able to run most VR games, albeit, on reduced settings. For extremely high end PC's, expect to spend $5,000 - $7,500. The current build I'm looking at will run roughly $6,400 (Price may vary depending on final CV1 specs, I might have to get an additional graphics card for SLI):

Rosewill RSV-L4000 4U Rackmount Server Chassis: $94.00
Asus Rampage V Extreme LGA 2011-v3 x99: $500.00
Intel Core i7-5960X Haswell-E 8-core x99: $1,050.00
G Skill Ripjaw 4 DDR4 3000 (64GB total) Quad Kit x2: $1,460.00
Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW SATA III SSD x2: $500.00
Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW SATA III SSD x2: $500.00
Seagate ST6000NM0024 6TB SATA III HDD x4: $2,160.00
Cooler Master V8 GTS: $100.00
BitFenix Spectre Pro Red 120mm Case Fan x2: $32.00
Rosewill RDCR-11004 Card Reader: $30.00

Total: $6,426.00

The other stuff which is not listed, the networking stuff, will run me about $4,000. That includes a NAS, rack, and UPS. All in USD.

The info in that short grab doesn't reveal anything newer that what was spoken about back during the Connect conference. Brendan often speaks in the same terms using language designed to build anticipation whilst remaining non-specific and open to speculation, he is a very good salesman, as he should be in his role at OVR.

CV1 will definitely not be released anytime before at least late 2015 / early 2016 imho.

I am kind of hoping that they give thoe of us who helped support he project first dibs at the new units. I picked up both the DK1 and the DK2, and will get the CV1 as soon as it gets released. To me, it is worth it and it will change the landscape of both gaming as well as having many real life applications.

They have said in the past that while they won't do another whole DK iteration, they plan on releasing a sorta.. beta unit to developers that's almost identical to the CV1, so that content creators can get a bit of a head start in getting content optimized for the CV1, as well as all the other benefits of a beta, (lots of free testing and such)

I don't know how limited of a release that will be, though, if they do it. Might be kinda neat if it's only available for sale if you already purchased a rift in the past... though that's still a LOT of people...

My money is on sometime between July and September release next year, and in full swing for the xmas holiday rush.

I will be interested to see how it runs on my existing rig, however truth is my "VR capable machine" will not be coming with the launch of CV1 as I want to get a skylake pc.

I reckon a skylake PC with 16gb of ram, a 500GB SSD with a 4TB mechanical drive and SLI GTX980s (I have 1 and the other one will be cheap by then) should be ok for CV1.

I'll also probably get a new PC around the time CV1 comes out. I already have a 980 so I'll get another with the new machine. That should do it!

I'm also thinking of picking up a 980 soon and then another around CV1 release. If it's out next year and SLI 980s isn't enough then it will surely be in trouble.
