Commercial towing as a profession?

Watched alien yesterday and am feeling nostalgic.

ever wondered why space statin and space ports all look the same?

because they are mass produced.

so if they are mass produced... How do they get out to where they are?

They are constructed on site or flown there by its own power (Ocellus)?

I'm not sure what you are suggesting.

I like that. Even small scale towing or refueling operations could be a great addition to the mission options. Maybe a cargo ship has run out of fuel in a local system and you have to get there and refuel it. Or there's a damaged ship in the system sending a request for a tow back to a station for repairs. Piracy-minded players could prey on them... bounty hunters could defend them... others could just try to get them out of danger before the vultures arrive and collect a paycheck.

stations are mass produced modular construction. that is why they are all the same, Just like the ships, they are built on a assembly line so they are cost effective. the same is with a station, that is why instead of a huge station taking years to build it only takes months.

I like where this statement was heading. Maybe system level events that everyone in the system gets. A large vessel that was being towed through the system is stuck as the tow ship was attacked, broke down, ran out of fuel, etc. They send a distress out to everyone who doesn't have a bounty assigned to them. They must be defended and ships must perform tasks at a scale that one ship could not do: deliver 10,000 tons of fuel so they can continue on their way, provide a special fuel required to power their massive Frame Shift Drive used to carry the massive ship into Hyperspece, defend the ship for 24 hours while they repair, etc.

To provide incentive to attack though something would have to be awarded for attacking. Opposition pays for those who attack it and destroy a certain amount of components(shield generators, fuel tanks, thruster modules, etc. Even something like reputation for whatever faction created the mess.

Might be something to separate from simply war zones to put down a rebellion.

I proposed this very idea several months ago, like very high-end transport missions only for people with extremely good trading reputations, with a lot of faction rep too. Big, valuable projects shipping whole pieces of station. Like a giant reactor, or something like that. Mucho credits for transportation, all that good stuff. Maybe even missions that involve attackers (somebody might decide to stop that new station being built), or even other players being offered missions to halt the station being built.

I'd like to see towing done with players that are stranded without fuel or with engine failure after a fight. Call for assistance, which goes on public display and creates a new mission then you take your chance if a friendly turns up to tow you first, or a pirate turns up to blow you up instead. The call for assist creates a SOS Nav Marker that other players can fly to. Someone with a towing utility can tow you back to the nearest station that has repair facilities for a fixed fee that you pay when issuing the call and is credited to anyone who initiates the towing utility on you, no refund if nobody turns up. Of course, this distress call could also be used by NPC's so those with a towing utility can tow them as well to make some extra cash.

This adds another use for the utility slots.

that sounds cool too

I just thought of something that could potentially solve another problem while being applied to this idea

tell me what you think
