["Commodity" storage] For the first time, I got really frustrated with the game

I knew it wasn't a good idea.
But I had no option to avoid this ...

--

So, I don't play ED as much as I used to do. (That's okay; it has nothing to do with the usual complains brought up in the forum. It's just that after three years of playing, ervery game will reach this "point of saturation".)
I decided to have a look at those Guardian structures, got Ram Tah's mission and headed towards the relevant planets with my beloved 'Morning Star'.
I was in awe of the new ruin type, I've never seen before - I try to avoid forum spoilers now, so I didn't knew about their existence.
For the same reason, I don't know about the correct correlation of obelisk-pictures and artifacts. But I was ready to decipher the mystery by myself; I've already started to gather all the artifacts.

Here comes the thing: Finding all of them isn't so easy.
- They are spread over multiple ruins (which I actually like).
- I play in VR, which is pure awesomeness. But for some reasons (I guess due to my more sporadic play times), I can not (quite literally) stomach the SRV-driving as good as I could before. Hence I had to limit my play times even more.
Bottom line: The mission timed out, and I was still missing the 'Orb'.
No biggie, I certainly could continue my hunt another time.

HOWEVER, for now I had enough of driving around. I wanted to do something different!
Some combat, for example.
I headed back to my HQ, ready to jump into my nimble Vulture for some fighting fun ... oh, wait, I can't.There is not enough storage room in this ship to hold the already gathered Guardian items!
Oh well, as much as I would have liked to fly this combat ship, I restrained myself to my Python. Maybe some missions alongside a bit of trading (the new trading tools realy help to find worthwhile commodities to haul alongside the mission cargo!)
But what is this? A 'hazardous mining site' near the mission's target station? Well, why not add some fighting fun after completing the mission?

Of course, I have all these Guardian artifacts in my hold and they will attract pirates like honey attracts flies. I really whished, I could store them somewhere, but so be it. I know I would be able to stand the heat or withdraw, if things would go wrong. The combat aspect really didn't trouble me.

Oh, this 'deadly' Anaconda is fighting back! Well, I'll show her ...
"Scan detected!"
Oh, great, even more fun! This is going to be tricky! Two Gunships ...
"Hatchbreaker limpet incomming!"
Wait, wait! WHAT????
"Module malfunction!"
Noooo! My precious! Thousands of years old archeological artifacts drifting in the cold vacuum of space! I will have to end the fight quickly, have to scoop them up again!
"Shield offline! Taking damage!" 90%. 74%. 56%!
Shut. I have to bail out! This is more than I can chew. Fare well, my sweet artifacts. I am sorry!

This post is NOT about consequences!
I am all for consequences. Do something stupid and deal with the outcome!

I knew in advance that keeping those artifacts in my hold was a bad idea.
I was more than ready to avoid this mistake.
In order to fly the ship I wanted.
In order to ease the (not to this extend) expected trouble in the HMS.

But the game didn't let me do this!
It forced me to keep the stuff I gathered over multiple game sessions (which induced nausea on top) in my hold!

This is not good, FDev!

PLEASE, reconsider the idea of commodities storage!

There is no need for excessive storage amounts.
I don't want the ability to store hundreds of commodities in order to influence the BGS.

But I want to be able to store at least some of the meanwhile introduced "special" items I collected during my game sessions.
I want to be able to switch ships and take part in other game activities without jeopardizing all the progress I've made before!

I just want to be able to ... oh well ... blaze my own trail!

Sounds like you were doing the first RT mission. I agreed with you at first, but having done the mission several times it gets easier (as with most things). Even the second Ram Tah mission (don't do that if you think storage is bad for the first - the second is far, far more challenging) I actually now don't mind re-gathering the requirements. Though I think I am going to be an outlier ;)

Edit: Another 'good' example where small storage would be good is Eagle Eye. Scanning them with the cargo you will later need to decode the messages is a good way to rack up millions in fines, and pirate attacks as well. Personal journey :)

There is not enough storage room in this ship to hold the already gathered Guardian items!

Is this just a moan for the sake of moaning??? ALL the gathered guardian items are materials (so you wouldn't lose them if you lost your ship)
The VAST majority of items needed for the Obelisks are either available at each Guardian Structure (Relic/Tablet/Casket etc) so wouldn't need to be carried about or Materials (so again CAN'T be lost) IE Thargoid Tissue Samples...
The only item that you could lose and requires effort to collect is ONE Thargoid Probe which is needed for ONE obelisk...

I totally agree. Having several ships, some with hundreds of tons capacity, I never understood why I had to unload it completely before being able to store the ship. But even a "neutral" cargo room external of any ship would do. As Long as I don't have to vent my "precioussssess" as you correctly named them anytime I Switch for a smaller ship.

Errrm, nope - OP is correct - tissue samples , ancient items , all cargo, not materials. No materials required for RT missions, though you can get extra materials as a result of doing the missions.

I realised as soon as I'd said it the Tissue samples were Cargo NOT Mats...they needed loading/unloading from the SRV...but the point remains...out of ALL the requirements only 4 are hard to obtain & require Cargo Cap (Probe/3 Tissue Samples) and they unlock 4 Obelisks...EVERYTHING Else is either trivial to obtain or available onsite (ALL the Guardian Items)
None of the "Collected Guardian items" are Cargo so aren't vulnerable to loss...be it Data or materials...

Yeah, but still the Thargoid stuff can be a bit of a pain to gather. When you finish the mission you have a choice: Either get rid of that corrosive cargo or carry illicit commodities with you for the rest of your life and get interdicted every second jump in the bubble.

Neither option seems great.
