Comm's anybody got a clue how they work

Hi everybody,

Hope fully this is a stupid question, But how do comm's work.

I thought that comms where implemented so that in side the same system you can have voice comms, But if you want to talk to somebody out side the system you only have text. Not a problem with that all sounds logical.

But he's my big question how do you start the conversation.

I've press the comm button and got a list of my friends who are logged in but apart from that I can't communicate with them. I've tried in the comm's windows @{Friends Name} but I get message not valid "Or something in that vain".

Am are missing something?

Thanks

not tired it, but I believe you need to be in scanning range.
once you press the coms option, you have the option to broadcast to everyone, or a specific command in range. as far as i can see, you can chat or voice.

If you click on a friends name you get 2 sub options voice and text, text opens up a blue dialog which you can type , voice sends a hail to your selected friend who has an option to ignore or answer.

On the basis they choose to answer - by selecting accept in the communication menu , you can talk with your mic - has an effect of an old radio communication - love it!.

You can also set within the control options a push to talk if you prefer and quick assign quick comm button.

Your friends comms are not bound to the same system, only other players that are not on your friends list.

Additionally worth checking you have all the rights settings enabled on your router likewise the person your trying to call, UPNP set to yes.

Hope this helps.

Arhh, This is my problem i don't have a mouse pointer, So I can click on anything.

I think "2" to get the comms list, I see one of my friends in online but I can't select him. If i press return to takes me to the general text window, and if I type anything I get an error.

You should be able to use the same controls as in the other panels in the cockpit.

We were about 5-6 folks on teamspeak last night, when we found out that the inability to select friends were related to the server crashes — It meant that people who crashed were still registered as "logged in", when they in fact were not ingame.

At least that what it appeared to be — After my game crashed or lost connection to server, my friends would see me as "online" in the list with a -X-.
The guys who logged off normally would disappear from the list.

1. target a friend & press F1 *{or wait to be targeted and see incoming "comms request" message}
2. use the WASD keys *(unless you changed your keyboard configs under "OPTIONS")
3. select one of the friends *[shown in the list upper left corner of your window ]
4. use the enter key to choose/add a person to the group *|yes it handles multi-way conversations|
5. voice activation is on by default, just start speaking *<or you can burp, cough, blow air on the mic, and fart until you both have had your fill>.

The in-game voice comms (using unknown voice programming?) use special effects which can interfere with non-native language speakers..

The preferred method for many is to join a regulated teamspeak server with admins, where "push to talk" mode is used, multiple rooms are setup that you can navigate in and out of for both chatty or quiet times.. as well as it has years of clean, clear, tested, tried and true support.

See my link above my sig for teamspeak and other guides free to download.. or use the teamspeak address in my sig and log in 24hrs a day!

(because you wont always have a known group of friends online at the same time as you and many experienced alpha players world-wide are on this server are ready to help you - even if you dont need new friends )
