Comms Array Mission

It seems I have incurred the wrath of a minor faction and reached the legendary status of HOSTILE with them. Not a biggie, it has happened before and will probably happen again - anyway it is their fault for only having wanted pilots in their faction!

Anyway, I received one of those pop-up missions that didn't give me a chance to accept or decline it (yes I know I could have just deleted it but it piqued my curiosity):

And immediately the following Mission appeared in the Transaction Tab:

Okay, this intrigued me, so I jumped in my throw-away Sidely (why tempt fate and fly a ship with an expensive rebuy right) and headed to the System. Did the honk, found the planet and headed there. Two attempted interdictions later (the first was a hoot, forgot I was in the Sidely so I submitted then realised I was up against a Python - boost boost, no shields left, boost, LoWake lol). There was a Mission Marker on the planet but nothing pointing towards the target settlement (was not on the Navigation list). Noticed an "Unexplored" feature on the planet so headed there and found this:

Is this my intended target? It is a restricted area which makes me suspect it is. And if it is, what part of it am I suppose to destroy. I flew around it for a while, but couldn't target anything from the ship, and it still remained as 'Unexplored'.

I am not worried about being hostile with a faction, nor the increased interdictions because of it, but this is the first time I have encountered a mission like this and it has me intrigued!

Any help on this would be appreciated.
 
Pretty sure you need a vehicle on the ground and you need to scan something. If i was a betting man id say its at that biiiig building in the middle lol.
 
Thanks to both of you, looks like I'm about to go for a little drive. Since it seems this place is ringed with defences I think it would be prudent to park a bit away from it all, drive, get the scan, cos by then I will probably be dead or near to it in my little SRV. At least I know if I do die after doing the scan I will just magically reappear in my ship, hopefully which is still in one piece :D

Will drop a line to let you know how I go, just cos I can :D
 
Try to park your ship between 1.5km and 2km, your ship will automatically fly off if you go over 2km away from it once you're in the SRV, there should just be one white box at this distance too - your target, you're not scanning it btw, you're blowing it up.

Just a word of advice, I avoid high security bases and there's a very good reason for this, although they can be good fun too.

UPDATE as promised:

Well I threw a SRV hangar in the Courier (decided I needed a fast nibble ship) and headed off. Only got interdicted once on the way there (more on that later), dropped into the planet and headed towards the target - this time it was even listed in the Nav Panel, overflew the station, got the usual warning about trespassing and picked a spot about 5 km away as a suitable landing site. Landed (wohoo me), deployed the SRV, dismissed the ship and started driving. After a minute or so, turned around and decided to head to the target (I have a lousy sense of direction in the SRV!). As soon as I got within 1.5km of the station, way before getting the trespass warning, the missiles started streaking towards me. Running repairs to the SRV hull ensured, quick check confirmed three targets lit up, all generators. Still bravely plowing onwards, soon the skimmers rose up to add their fire power to the missiles (which I was able to dodge, go figure). Got close to one generator, opened fire and well that was it, me, myself and my SRV were no more.

Through the magic of FD, I was soon awaken back in my ship, and since no more SRV, decided to head back home. As soon as I cleared the gravity well and about to jump into witchspace, I got a warning from the same NPC that interdicted me on the way there. No problems, 15 seconds later I was in that mysterious tunnel heading back to my home system. Now this is where it gets fun. During the short SC cruise to my home station, the same NPC tried to interdict me again (same name, same ship - Viper 4 to be exact). Easily beat the interdiction in the Courier, docked, and decided enough is enough. Changed ships to my FdL. headed out again. As soon as I was in SC, the same NPC popped up again, but no interdiction, just text threats. Decided to see what would happen if I dropped into the Nav Beacon and sure enough, about 30 seconds after I dropped in so did my nemesis. Very, repeat very quick battle ensured, turned out my deadly NPC wasn't that deadly afterall. All that for a lousy 200CR bounty!

Well I thought that is it, no more fun but there were a couple of nice wanted targets in the Nav Beacon so I thought, why not do a little pruning of the wanted tree. Probably a minute after dispatching my NPC nemesis opened fire on me whilst I was otherwise engaged, same name, same ship, same result, same bounty.

Luckily the mission has dropped off the page so I didn't even have to abandon it.
