Comms explanation?

Stuck at work and cant waitto try out the new beta, from what ive read so far it seems to be just as good as we hoped for!

But can someone give me a quik rundown on how the comms work and to what extent we can communicate?

Only ship to ship?
Text/voice?
Range?

Both text and voice.

Text covers everywhere in galaxy (trough friends list and locally).

Voice chat only in your local instance.

At this point it is ship to ship. No broadcasting, but I think that will change at certain limit.

It is very kool! You target the ship then press the comms key and then it rings(beeps) until the other ship awnsers. Sounded great, very robust. We had 3 peeps on the same comm chanel at the same time. We were going to try and fly to another location together to test but my wife wooooed me into the jacuzzi.
The game can wait.( if you know what i mean....wink wink)

What about talking to people on your friends list? I can bring up the comms window and see them. but I can't send them any messages.
