Comms - fix them.

I can chat with random bypasser, but not with friends on my list. I think they're aware of the issue though.

Just for sure - if you haven't reported this issue yet, please do so, giving all information about when and which commander you had problems with to communicate.

Pretty sure you need newer socks for this.

Oh, I bet my mom or grandparents have those for me in package :D ... they always do.

Hmm, forgot to include the "when"... will edit.

I am experiencing the very same thing.

My game-buddy and I simply use Skype. Even when comms is working well we find the (admittedly very impressive) voice filter tends to interfere with conducive conversation.

Though I'd like to see the issue fixed even for text messages.

FYI, it doesn't even work with someone sitting physically next to me, connected to the same router (we do show up within our LAN etc., only the game cannot connect cross-instance comms between us).

Try only connecting one machine to the router, and using that machine set up Internet connection sharing in windows, and then connecting the other machine that way.

A horrid situation, but worth trying.

That'd work only if they were Windows machines... but if they're not? And yea, even without a native client, you CAN play ED with other platforms that Winblowz.

What platform are you running it on? You may need to check whichever "virtual" or emulated network adapter you are presenting to the Elite exe is passing all the traffic both your router and your platform "real" network stack are working with - wether bindings or firewall or internal route table, or even something strange with virtual MAC addresses being needed individually allowed someplace, networks can be weird.

It doesn't work even when face to face, unless the other hails me first. If they fail to hail me, then... well, *crickets*... it's pretty silent.

Also, voice comms... same issue.

I think this stuff is the roots for threads about people who don't reply or such - the comms just ain't working.

This description actually makes me think that the issue is with the other players routers. Possibly don't support UPnP very well or have it disabled. (The symptom being that they have to initiate the comms).

Just a guess. Perhaps someone from FD who knows exactly how the Peer-to-Peer comms communication is setup on the network side of things.
