Not sure how often comms comes up, but seriously, what we have now is not condusive to gameplay. Currently we have to look away or have whats in front of us blocking what we should be focussing on. In ships, we have to look up at the comms panel, which is maybe ok if you have VR, but not good if you play pancakes. And for on-foot, what? If you want to chat or look in your backpack, a big window pops up that blocks your view of everything.
Any game that is multiplayer has chat. But all games, other than ED, have it so chat is down at the bottom, or bottom left, or top, or top right, whatever, so it doesn't block the gameplay. And the chat window is transparent, or you only see the text, not a big black rectangle blocking everything behind it. And those other games sometimes dont even need the focus to be on the game as much as ED does.
So could we get an overhaul of this, and make chat something you dont mind using, instead of the hastle it is now to? Also, I'd suggest making font size adjustable.
A couple suggestions to get you started. You could have each one of the window tabs in their own separate windows, all around your view. So when you turn your head, those windows move with your head movement. But you have a toggle button to have them visible, faint, or invisible. I'd also include the "information" window, as well. Think of it like a google-glass kind of thing. Also, you have it so you can hit enter, or whatever, to start chat. But after you enter chat, you should be able to toggle through the different chat types using your tab key.
Also, you have a tab for "Direct messages from players". To me, that suggests humans who play the game. But, somehow, if you do a conflict zone, the text from the zone leader is put there, and tonnes of it. So if I actually get a message from a player, which is rare anyways, its lost since there's 15 messages about the battle. Make a separate tab for the conflict zone messages, or dont have them at all. What a waste of text space.
And again, for the information window, can we have it so we can scroll back through that? Seems like there is this mini-game in ED called "keep your eye on the information window, or you'll never see some vital information"? And the text seems to flash a bit, even, like "hey, see this, or you'll be in trouble!" then you look there, and it's gone.
