Comms Panel needs a radio

Should be able to turn if off, of course. But there should be a visual indicator so you still know if there's activity when the audio is muted.

Should be able to press a button and just start talking to whoever is nearby. Makes no sense. There should be a lot more chatter. Even from NPCs. People taking off in stations. It's ODDLY QUIET around here. I almost got hit just this morning leaving a station... I had to boost out unexpectedly... What gives? Not having proper voice comms is a serious safety hazard. :p

seriously though, texting and driving? Come on.. for real? The social aspect of this game sorely needs the radio functionality to be there and it isn't. There needs to be an actual radio in every ship. It's a chore to communicate in this game & as a consequence, no one does. I mean, I've been playing for a year and it's rare to even see another player... You'll fly through the same systems, but you'll rarely ever be in the same place... It's a shame there isn't more work being done to really beef up the comms panel.

All this high tech and the real time instantaneous communications are done via a yahoo chat window you wont even see unless you're focused on it. It's useless. I play in VR and the only typing I do is through Voiceattack "TANGO HOTEL INDIA SIERRA STOP SIERRA UNIFORM CHARLIE KILO SIERRA STOP"

Realism would be ideal. It's good where it's at, because you know you have this whole game that can function without them, but the tools should be there & they aren't. Even if it's just pushing a button to hail a ship you're looking at, instead of crashing your ship just trying to say hi.

Snowflakes will then get upset when other commander's make fun of their paint job, so I agree with you in principle but I can't see it happening.

I agree. It's way too quiet out there. The ED Galaxy is a busy place. Comms panel should be clickable like the upper panel on a 737 in flight sims with an indicator for "mute", volume control, and on/off switches to select station comms, GalNet audio, m3u streaming station presets (like RAdio Sidewinder), and your own music folder(s). Panel should have a display below that can show text msgs or video (could even degrade video/audio by distance).
