Newcomer / Intro Comms panel request

Not sure if this is the correct forum, apologies if not.

When you first open the comms panel (key 2), it immediately opens the text input for Local. The only way I've found to get out of this is to press esc.

This means that I can't automatically check recent comms (that have scrolled off) or to quickly check contacts, messages etc, without first escaping from the text input.

My suggestion is that when the comms panel is opened, that in order to enter a message, then Return should be pressed first to open the text input. This gives us the ability to quickly move through the comms panel or just to open/close the panel when checking comms, without first having to press esc, or chat a load of 2's to the local channel :)

I may be mistaken, but I remember the following:

1. When you open the comms panel, you can close it right away by pressing the same key. If you carry out any kind of action while in the comms panel (for example scroll) you have to then hit Esc then press the key to exit it.

2. Right after opening the comms panel, with the local chat active (awaiting input), you can scroll up or down with the keyboard arrow keys, without actually typing stuff. You do need to hit Esc though after you're done scrolling.

Hi

You are correct, it does now work this way, however it wasn't yesterday, when you initially opened comms it immediately put me in the text input and I had to escape before I would do anything.

Apologies for wasting a thread and thanks for correcting me.

Thank you for asking. I didn't know about what Waps said and just thought I had to press Esc. There is always someone who knows stuff you don't.

Hi

I've just checked again.. and when in flight, it still operates as per my original post.

edit: have just docked and it is still operating as my original post. I can't press the comms key twice to close the comms panel, it now remains in the text input.

Is this a bug?

I'm sure theres a way to change it in the options, I can't remember, but I'm sure I got my comms panel to not do that...

Set UI Focus mode to 'Cycle' and assign a joystick button (or keyboard key) to UI back.
UI back should then bring you out of Comms without having to press Esc.

Yeah, it does the same for me too. I could have sworn it was behaving differently...

Edit: I figured out what was wrong.

I have the comms panel mapped to both the up arrow key (I use the numbers for energy management since it's close to the left hand) and a button on my joystick (I use joystick and keyboard). If I press the up arrow key, it will not close the comms panel since it registers it as scrolling the chat up. If I use the joystick button, it will close the comms panel regardless (even after scrolling or texting).

I haven't tested with another key on my keyboard, but I assume that any key which can be interpreted as scrolling (arrows) or text (letter keys) will screw up closing the chat (since it believe you are trying to type). Maybe try mapping the comms to an F1-F12 key? I dunno, but the joystick key works for me.
