Its the comms man... really, have you ever been fiddling around in galaxy map or outfitting, lost the track of time and when you get back to 'normal' view to find a messsage from a friend...from 2hours ago.
Communications have been a strange aspect of this game for a long time. It did got a lot of improvement, but it still remained in that little box on the top left.
What im suggesting is, that when a player is in outfiddling screen or looking at dots in galaxy map (basicly ANYWHERE but in cocpit view), the message would still appear, somewhere visible. May it be like another chat box.
Another annoying practical example, that you have to go out of whatever you're doing just to reply and see if you got any message.
