Hi Cmdr
There are no predefined sentences but you can setup macro's using third party software / some gaming keyboard software etc, but that's another discussion.
To chat with others in-game you need to select who it is you want to send a message to.
How this is done can vary on what control method you use, but if keyboard / mouse then you can get focus on the comms menu by pressing 2. Select the ship / cmdr and type away. You can also do a quick reply without selecting the CMDR by pressing Enter (instead of selecting each time)
If you use a controller etc then check the control options labelled "Comms panel" and "Quick Comms" towards the lower half of the options list. Hope that helps.
