Community goal comparative good values.

A lot of Community goals ask for multiple goods, but players often tend to deliver just one, typically the most valuable, as long as it's available. And generally, because the bubble is so big, the supply is near infinite.

Sometimes this isn't a problem, if the goods are more or less interchangeable, but sometimes this results in some of the good choices being ignored completely, which is a shame, especially when those goods are more interesting to get, but just happened to be completely non-competitive for some reason.

The community goal a few weeks back is a great example. It asked for rare goods and also normal Goods. Naturally, this resulted in everybody just hauling the normal good and more or less ignoring the rare good entirely.

And then there are mining CGs. Often they offer extremely good value on a few goods, but are restricted to only minerals that have been mined, and never have been traded. This often results in the counterproductive result of lots of Traders ignoring the community goal entirely, instead taking advantage of it to make massive amounts of money off of the inflated prices.

So my question is this; would it be possible to offer multiplied Returns on subsets of goods?

For example, in the current Community goal, it is asking for titanium. Would it be possible to have titanium that has been purchased be worth one unit of cargo for the community goal, but titanium that was mined be worth 5 to 10 units of cargo for the community goal?

Or another example; in that Community goal from several weeks ago, the standard Commodities might be worth one unit of cargo, while the rare Goods might be worth 10.

If such a thing were possible, it could be a really good way to keep Community goals more diverse and interesting, even in Fairly standard trading Community goals.

If you can find a way to get titanium with the mined flag it's probably worth at least 20 units. ;)

It's not unprecedented - the most recent exploration CGs had one point for a scanned body, three points for a mapped one.

For more complex trade CG mechanisms something like the station repairs system might make more sense - there's three (ten, etc.) goods with separate targets for each, so you need to mix things up a bit ... equally, if you want a complex trade CG, it probably needs to be set somewhere where there are meaningful supply constraints.

Ha! Silly me, I guess I just saw that it was a metal and assumed. Bit of a shame, I would have done some mining just for the rp factor. Oh well.

That's a really good point about the exploration cg, though. I totally forgotten about that! If they have the technology, it would be really cool if they would use it sometime.

The whole ideas of how CGs work currently is farcical; until FD make it so that a certain amount of every commodity listed in the CG requirements has to be delivered to reach each tier, we'll just have the current situation where only the 1 or possibly 2 most profitable commodities get delivered. Which leads to space stations and starships being constructed entirely out of fish & tea. 🙃
