Newcomer / Intro Community goal turn in

The Yembo trade community goal just finished, and it says that I need to head to Yembo to claim the reward. Would I be right in thinking that there is no expiry date on this - I can turn it in any time I like and I will get the 5% discount for 11 days from the date of turn in?

If that's right, it means that i can hold on to it until I'm ready to do a an upgrade and benefit from the pay out in my own time!

Also, will this persist through ship destruction?

Not really sure to be honest... they've not given us much information on how it works.

If it helps though I've just "finished" that goal (in the top 5%) and I didn't notice any difference at all in the cost of equipment, ships or anything else in the starport services.

I checked the equipment price against against the ED Wiki but couldn't see any difference so far.

Only bought a heat sink launcher as a test (just in case the discount came off at purchase) but the price was the same as the normal price listed on the Wiki. Perhaps we need to log out/back in or just leave it for a day?

Nah I left once I realised that outfitting costs were the same. It's only 5% off soggy sandwiches from one of the vending bots on the maintenence levels! ;)

Out of interest.

Are you top 5%-ers in a ship with huge cargo holds? How much did you haul in total?

I hauled cargo for the past two days in my T6 but only got into the top 40%...

I was top 5 percent. hauled something around 12,000 tons in the end. I think I hit top 5% after about 9,000 though. Took me about a day and a half (all of saturday, and sunday evening) to get there. I was hauling stuff in a T7, so about double the load that you were doing in a T6. I'm planning on using the 5% as a discount towards a T9, then if I make enough cash, using some trading profits to upgrade my ASP.

That's why I was wondering about being able to delay the turn in, so that I can get the 5% discount when it suits me. It looks like that is exactly how it works, so YAY.

I think I managed to do about 2.5K tonnes but I was being greedy and visiting WOLF 871 for materials and their stations were 10mins from the sun but the profit was 1400K per T so I probably made more than the prize money overall...

Great feature community goals, was always a spectacle flying into Yembo and seeing 15+ ships all flying out, all trading away and doing their thing.

Turned out I am now friendly with Yembo too after all the trading, little bonus. Just a shame their prices for metals have plummeted since the event.

hehe, I was only going there for the event, it was nice an convenient. With the fast round trip the profit was great. Think I clocked up about 17 or 18 million credits. ok that sounds bad when I'm not sure how many millions I made hehe.

This is one of the eternal questions of trading in Elite - to maximise profits, is the short route with less profit better than the longer route with more profit. I did an experiment with a couple of trade routes last night and realised that there is a sweet zone that it's worth getting into. Bascially, a zone where the route is short enough to be quick, profitable enough to be worth making the trip. i.e. if a round trip takes an hour an nets you a million credits, or if the round trip takes 5 mins but nets you 100000 credits. which is "better"? in my mind the 5 min trip as 10 trips will get you that same million credits, but it will only take about 50 mins, so with the extra 10 mins you get 2 more runs it, making 1.2 million an hour ;-)

It's kind-of subjective as it depends on the person. I'd personally take the longer route option and browse the forums while my ship is in SC than have to dock 20 times. It's each to their own, I suppose that's what make's Elite what it is - it can be many different things to different people.

17-18 million is a lot though. I must have only made about 3m or something. I wasn't on for long at the weekends though (mainly Sunday) and I didn't touch it at all on Monday (work). Still it doubled what I had in the bank though... so that's good.

I just checked the yembo reward and now the 5% price drop is active. Includes ships and outfitting. Even with discount I can't afford asp. It's 450k short :) But of course I need alot for outfitting also. If next goal includes 5% price drop as reward then I am going to get asp.
