Community Goals - Add a contributer Lottery element

In addition to the standard rewards available for contributing to a community goal, it could be interesting if a lottery component was added with contributors to the goal being entered automatically.

After the completion of the community goal, the Lottery could be drawn, and winners picked.

Multiple prizes could be made available, such as pure-credit prizes, combo credit & item (weapons/modules) prizes (suitable for the ship the player is flying when redeeming their winnings), and perhaps in some cases a top prize could be a well equipped ship ?

The number of entries a player has in the lottery could be based on their ranking in the community goal contribution. "100%" tier = 1 lottery entry, "70%" tier = 2 lottery entries, and so on.

The lottery draw should obviously be completely random. A hardcore player with an A-rated Anaconda in the 5% tier should have the same chance as a newbie Sidewinder pilot who has had their first go at trying a community goal. That sidewinder pilot could find themselves lucky enough to win their own A-rated Anaconda :)

Extending the idea of ships as lottery prizes, in view of the current War in Lugh community goal:

For combat-oriented community goals, a special type of lottery prize could also be included - an invitation to join a Test Pilot programme for a major faction (Federation, Empire, Alliance), for a temporary period.

Using the example of a newbie sidewinder pilot from above, that pilot could suddenly find themselves handed the keys to a shiny fully-loaded FDL to play with for a week :)

A player invited to be a Test Pilot could be given the opportunity to borrow a high-end or prototype ship for a limited period (1 week?).

  • The player would need to swap their normal ship for the loaner ship at a designated location (perhaps via a special Test Pilot Invitation voucher issued as part of the lottery winnings).
  • The player could use the ship during the loan period as they wish, BUT it would be expected that the ship is returned intact at the end (don't get killed). Failure to return a working ship comes with heavy consequences.
  • The loaner ship cannot be modified or sold (the player is supposed to be testing the ship and its high-end equipment as supplied!).
  • The player should be able to return to the location where their own ship is stored, and switch ships freely within the loan period. The loaner ship could be restricted so that it can only be stored in its designated home location.
  • Players who do return the ship when expected (implemented as a timed mission?) could gain a good chunk of reputation and perhaps a nice participation fee as a thank you for their time. Any CRs the player has earned during their use of the ship, by whatever means necessary, are of course theirs to keep as well.
  • Players who do not return the ship before the loan expires automatically get a huge bounty on their heads, and end up on the major factions KoS list, instantly Hostile. The faction would rather have the ship destroyed than fall into enemy hands
  • Players who enter the faction territory with their now stolen ship are subject to swift military action, including finding themselves being hunted by Capital ships! Such a player is to be treated as having committed high-treason and considered a major enemy of the state.
  • A player who has "liberated" such a ship may very well find an opposing major faction is very interested in the ship and the tech it is carrying, and willing to heap rewards on the player for handing over the ship to them. While the player now can have high reputation & standing with the faction receiving the stolen ship/tech, that player is now considered a traitor and a spy by the faction that the ship was stolen from. Returning to the original faction territory is now a very risky business (and that also means your original ship may no longer be accessible to you as the original faction essentially has it impounded in a now hostile location!).
  • A player who defects early to an opposing faction before the loan expires might have enough time to fetch their own ship, using a cheap old sidewinder. However the act of leaving the original factions home port without storing/returning the loan ship will be viewed as very suspicious and the player can be (correctly?!) deemed to have defected to the enemy. The player should now expect a rather hostile reaction, but the prompt return of the loan ship before the loan expiry (if the player still actually possesses it) may go a little way to repair the reputation damage.

A non-military variation could be a corporate-sponsored Test Pilot programme run by ship manufacturers with the chance to try out high-end / experimental offerings from Lakon etc. A corporate equivalent series of penalties for non-return of a ship could apply, with the perpetrator considered guilty of corporate espionage if they hand over the ship to a representative of a competitor.

The opportunity to win a lottery like this could make community goals even more attractive, and get people participating in them for the chance to get more interesting rewards than just pure credits (although those are always nice!)
