Community Goals as content delivery and story progression tools

I don't think adding voice-to-text for reading GalNet news to me is the solution. Nice feature to be sure but not a solution to getting any story out to the masses.

It is part of solution though. Flying around and listening to news - it actually might have good merit there. Yes, animated NPC speeches, etc. is golden end goal there, but it will take a bit of effort to get there.

Also what is needed is more enviromental hinting. Mission hints, offers, etc. are very good, but there also should be like NPC chatter about what's going on - there is some of it but needs to be more - more news of local boards, etc.

It is all doable and I suspect FD is moving in that direction.

So long as I can opt out of listening to it, I won't have an issue with it. I think it should also be able to be triggered when I want to listen, but if I can read it as I can now, that likely won't matter.

I agree it is likely the first of multiple steps to some type of story-driven narratives. I welcome it.

I'm happy to wait and see what they deliver. I even have high hopes it'll lead to a better... wait for it... immersion. [alien]

The only thing I'm worried about is that the steps will be too small... I mean Galnet Audio is not a massive improvement, objectively, is it?

We don't know whether it will be just galnet audio. I think galnet will be updated a lot more then just the audio. Let's wait and see.

The new Repair Station thing is a good example of what was wrong with CGs.

The Repair is story-driven rather than a feeble attempt to drive the story.
The progress bars aren't quite so obviously gamey.
The broken stations require all of the goods, not just a bulk amount of any of them.
There doesn't appear to be a time limit, so when it gets done will be player driven.
No grind motivating ranking reward other than the inflated profits of the goods themselves.

By itself, I don't think it's a "massive" improvement. I don't think FD thinks it is either, but I suspect it's the start of more text-to-voice in ED.

But I too will wait and see what FD delivers and where they take it. Possible they'll incorporate it into reading mission text. Maybe they'll use the same approach as MultiCrew and only add more if people use it. Only time will tell and the clock is ticking.

The only Galnet addition I saw in the Frontier Beyond announcement was audio. Where have you seen them saying there will be more?

I don't think there were any other news, so I assume it's just speculation. I really hope it's right though! :)

Without reading whole thread, I think it would be an idea if _some_ CGs advanced a general plot line.
Until recently I've always thought they were a way to shift half the player base from one area of the map to another on a random basis. 😁

But some unrelated ones would be fine also.

As for plot lines, people have been watching same soap operas on TV for years and outlined in them get rehashed and repeated all the time. So if plots here followed that pattern, these forums would quickly become awash with complaints they were all samey instead. 😏.

True that.

I would still like some more meat to them tough, in terms of actual narrative presentation...

Am I the only one that checks if there is a Bounty Hunting CG in the list and if not ignores it?

Hands-up, I only do them, 1. To get additional pay for pew pew and 2. Faster ranking on whichever account I'm playing.

You aren't alone.

I don't find d fetch quests fun. Hauling CG is for me tedium incarnate. I have ETS2 for that, I don't need Elite for trucking.
