Hi coaster friends!

As promised, this Wednesday (Feb 15) we have a super special community livestream for you all!

It’s safe to say we all love the sound of Planet Coaster; our entire audio team is so amazingly talented and passionate, and they have recently been nominated for the prestigious G.A.N.G. Awards this year (Best Audio for Indie Game, Best Sound Design in a Casual/Social Game). Perfect time for me to be joined by Lead Audio Designer Matthew Florianz and Audio Programmer Jon Ashby, who will take us on a musical journey and show us all the incredible intricacies of the sound design of the game!

Of course, you’ll also have a chance to ask them any questions about the audio of Planet Coaster – make sure you post your questions below and we’ll answer some of them on the stream this Wednesday.

It’s going to be so fun and technical, so be sure to be there at 7PM GMT when we go live!

Wonderful news! I look forward to the audio journey of the game. It's going to be a great ride! :D

See you on Wednesday everyone!

One of my favorite things about the audio in the game are the subtle small things.

What are your favorite sounds your team has been able to implement in the game?

Also, when looking at a more technical side of things, (I'm a musician/composer) how do you handle the mix within the game engine? Is it similar to a DAW suite or multi channel mixer?

And finally, what was the most challenging sound you've had to work on to get just right? And what's the story behind its evolution to final mixdown?

I'll be there for sure :D

- What was the inspiration for The Ballad of Tentifu ? (It's so amazing :D )
- What is your own favorite piece of music in the game?

And ofcourse a very special thank you to the Audio team for implementing my favorite feature [happy]

Looking forward to this one Bo. Have I ever mentioned how much I love the audio in this game? And Matthew is awesome.

And I'm looking forward to seeing Vampiro's reaction live when Matthew announces on the livestream that Custom Music is being ripped out for practical reasons. OOOPS! Spoilers!!! [mouth shut]

Mid livestream note : Im amazed they managed to get the graphics and simulation in the game as well. The sound is SO complex it's like a game in itself [bored]

Thanks so much for watching! Was a lot of fun and my head is blown with all the technical stuff as well. So amazing. Matthew and Jon did a great job explaining it :)

Here are some of the audio team's answers that we didn't get around to during the stream:

3pmusic: what is the most challenging sound you had to work on to get just right?
[James Stant] King Coaster’s Foley (and VO treatment) took a few iterations, just ensuring we had something with hints of buoyancy and squeakiness. After various sessions working with balloons and a birthing ball (at different stages of deflation) we got something we liked!
[Jim Croft] For terrain I wanted something that offered a satisfying degree of both feedback and interactivity based on terrain size and intensity. It's a multi-layered data driven behemoth that took a long time to balance.

Ebony Knight: which sound in the game has the most layers?
[Matthew Florianz] coasters!
[James Stant/Jim Croft] coasters, the main menu music seamlessly transitioning into one another, and the terrain editor!

Vampiro: what was the inpiration for the Ballad of Tentifu?
[James Stant] For the lyrics, I wanted to tell two stories, inspired by the wonderful cabin designs of the barrels (representing buccaneers) and the octopi. Each rotation direction had their own verses/chorus and are separated by the key change. It’s a family ride, so I wanted the lyrics to be friendly, happy and harmonious. Even though Ross’ Pirate vocal performance may have been purposefully a little gruff, I think it adds to the humour when you find out he’s singing about octopi offering you a nice hug.
[Michael Maidment] The backing was written to fit with the rotations of the ride, and the instrumentation choices came from James’ suggestion that a bunch of pirates could have collected instruments in their travels, or made some whilst at sea. Working from that led to including ukulele, accordion, a tea-chest bass, fiddle and some Polynesian percussion.
