Hayo fellow zookeepers!

Last year we've had the pleasure of enjoying four (!) community meetings in several zoos in The Netherlands with a group from DeLadysigner community. This year we hope to do that again and we would love to have fellow Planet Zoo players join us!

You are hereby invited for our first meeting in the year 2020.

Planet Zoo Community Meeting
Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp) | The Netherlands

Date and time
Sunday 24 May 2020 | 10:00 AM CEST | CANCELLED

Meeting location
We plan to meet everyone between 09:30 - 10:00 AM at the Oceanium entrance inside the park (past the ticket gates) and will start the meeting at 10:00 AM. The park will be open from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM CEST (09:00 - 18:00). The Oceanium entrance is located next to the zoo's parking area. Guests travelling with public transport can enter the park at the Riviera entrance and walk through the park to the meeting point at the Oceanium entrance.

The organisation will only be the date; everyone is responsible for their own costs such as park entrance tickets, parking, transport, overnight stay and/or food, drinks and souvenirs, and everyone is responsible for their own health and safety.

Backstage tour
We are currently in talks with the zoo about the possibility for backstage tours, which will cost € 3.95 per person (subject to change) on top of the entrance ticket. A tour will be between 1.5 - 2 hours. There are currently two available options; one tour starts at 11:00 AM and another tour starts at 2:00 PM. The minimum amount of guests for a tour is 4 and the maximum amount of guests that can attend a tour is 30, so it will be organised on a first come, first serve basis (full = full). The tours are organised by the zoo and as such their terms apply. Filming backstage is not allowed.

Would you like to join us? Then please let me know!

Hey there, I have time off from work coincidentally at that time anyway. That's great so I will go to try and make it possible to attend.

That makes two great meetings for me this year. I'll ctach back to you as soon as accomodations are done. :D

Love the sound of this! I'm down as a maybe. :)

Great shout with the disclaimer though, I'll hold off booking for now but I'll remain in the know with what others are doing.

Community Meeting Update

Rotterdam Zoo has closed most of their indoor areas as of 13 March, such as the Oceanium and greenhouses, in order to prevent further spreading of the Covid-19 virus. As it stands right now the zoo itself remains open (outdoor areas only).

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the Community Meeting on 24 May can proceed as planned, and we will keep you updated in this thread if anything changes about the Community Meeting.

Please also pay attention to the disclaimer in the announcement post.

Joël, Chante and Bo,
here is a little update for now.

I found this on their website:
Diergaarde Blijdorp zal met ingang van zaterdag 14 maart alleen geopend zijn voor abonnementhouders.
In English: Diergaarde Blijdorp will be only open to people who have subscriptions as of saturday 14 march.

As stated in my post of last Friday; we are keeping our fingers crossed that the Community Meeting on 24 May can proceed as planned, and we will keep you updated in this thread if anything changes about the Community Meeting.

Unfortunately, we may have to cancel this Community Meeting if the situation does not improve.

Community Meeting Rotterdam Zoo / Diergaarde Blijdorp CANCELLED

Hayo fellow zookeepers,

The Dutch government has announced that due to the Covid-19 outbreak, all meet-ups of people (no matter how many) are now forbidden until 1 June 2020, in order to prevent spreading of the Covid-19 virus.

As such, the Community Meeting in Rotterdam Zoo / Diergaarde Blijdorp that we had planned for 24 May 2020 is hereby cancelled.

It is unfortunate that we have to cancel this meeting, as we were looking forward to meet fellow community members in a beautiful zoo. However, in times like these health is more important.

Please stay safe and think of your own health and the health of others, especially vulnerable people. Please follow advice, guidelines and regulations of your government and local authorities, which include;
  • Social distancing: keep at least 1,5 meter between you and other people as much as possible
  • Only leave the house when absolutely required
  • Work from home as much as possible
  • Stay at home if you’re not 100% healthy, for example if you have a cold, are couching or have a mild fever
  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Avoid any physical contact with other people
Please adhere to the above as much as possible, even if you do not fear the virus yourself, do it for others such as elderly and sick people.

We won’t be planning any more meet-ups for now, until the situation with the Covid-19 virus has been resolved.

Thank you very much, and please stay safe everyone! ❤

Yeah it’s a real bummer I had plans of renewing my local zoo membership and visiting a few times this spring during school hrs but now all zoos are closed.

Yep. The same goes for me and probably a huge amount of other people.

I always like to visit zoos as soon as the spring starts, but that’s sadly not possible in the upcoming months.

Hopefully everyone will take the precautions and laws issued for prevention of the spreading of the virus seriously, so that the Covid-19 virus problem can be resolved as soon as possible!

Understandable, we will get this over and there will for sure be another time, where we will be able to catch up on everything we have to cancel now. It is what it is and the most important thing now is, that we all stay as safe as possible. After a short time of losses follows a long time with all the beautiful and exciting things we can experience again.

Stay safe everyone.

That's a shame, but understandable! Admittedly I've always had low hopes for this one due to the outbreak but there's always a time to catch up and in this case there is, without a doubt, nothing more important that everyone's own health.

Miss you all but for now, stay strong, stay positive, stay safe...and support each other! We'll all push through this no matter how long it takes ❤️

Next time I will probably join. My wife and I just purchased a year round subscription on Blijdorp.
A shame it can't continue, but it is what it is. Let's just make sure with everybody this terrible virus stops as soon as possible.
