Community opinion (to reasonable PC CMDR & consoles CMDR)

do you think it's worth continuing to spend time on this game, without knowing if it will be updated on consoles? I would be really sad to see this title no longer evolve on consoles, but it would be easier to move on if the situation was clear. I do not ask this question to blow on the embers, but to know the opinion of the community on this subject, to hope or not to hope? That is the question.

Question like this might garner more opinions in dangerous discussions, but as I suspect you have already concluded, it's a risky thing to do as you're not trying to stoke up arguments.

I'm a pc player although I have consoles too. But the ultimate decision has to be down to you really mate. It depends if you are still enjoying it or feel like you have reached an end point? That is in lieu of realising that you don't have Odyssey yet, so that just complicates it further!

My personal opinion, continue, but that's based on my experiences alone.

My personal gut feeling is that we will have an answer sometime next month; but I'm not an expert on this sort of thing and I'll probably be wrong.

I was a lone wolf for the first 2 years I played this game and it was fine. There was a certain time when I realized I needed other people to play with and I did. Anyone who continues to play can certainly do so alone and they will have a good time. Lord knows explorers don't need anyone else. Just understand that squadrons are dying out all over and it will be very difficult to find anyone to play with in the future unless something changes.

You shouldn't expect Odyssey to revolutionise the gameplay. If you're already wondering if you want to keep playing Elite: Dangerous, it may be time to take a break.

Odyssey isn't a bad product but it just adds a few more missions on foot and a little variety to the combat. The base is still the same with procedural generation and even more restrictive engineering mechanics. The DLC does not add anything to the rest of the game as it is designed as a separate module. Odyssey is a plus (if you can get it to work) but it is not essential to enjoy the game.

You mean apart from all the new bio, the atmospheric planets, the concourses and fleet carrier interiors (to come soon), Apex taxi service. Apart from all that?

I certainly consider the on foot conflict zones to be a seperate part of the game, but I treat in space conflict zones the same, don't do it at all, I don't fight Thargoids either. I mean the game is essentially made up of a number of modules you can pick and choose from, but to claim Odyssey added nothing to the game apart from the FPS aspect is disingenuous. I can still walk in to Odyssey settlements and do delivery and collect missions, just walk around touristing, it adds more missions for players to do as variation from the already existing collection of missions.

That's what I'm saying: Odyssey adds a bit of variety to the basic game but doesn't add anything to the original gameplay. Powerplay, BGS, lore exploitation, trade, Thargoids, community events,... : there is no noticeable impact.

Those who still enjoy playing Elite Dangerous (and have the right machine of course) should invest in Odyssey, it's clearly a bonus. For the others, the question honestly arises.

I find it healthy to game on consoles; it’s more social to be able to game on the sofa :) So xbox (series x) is my preferred platform, and I’ll just upgrade to the next xbox platform once it comes along.

If frontier do decide to end-of-life console versions of elite, they will almost certainly allow commanders to transfer in game assets to the pc version, so I don’t think there’s much risk from that point of view.

My suspicion is that they will find a way to consolidate the codebase and have pc be the max-performance option, with console graphics being turned down slightly, depending on your console. Xbox x has the grunt to run a (graphically) scaled back odyssey now, and with another few optimisation passes, it will be even better.

So Play it when you have fun,

i have stop it for the moment, wait for the bugfix of the missing station service on the system map and the missing archives logs

so much to the point HRZN is stable

If you're enjoying the game, why stop based on speculation and heresay? Even if Frontier announced tomorrow that its not coming to consoles - or even that the game wasn't going to be supported on any platform going forward - I doubt they'd just arbitrarily turn the lights off and shut the servers down, certainly not as long as people are still buying Arx.

If you're enjoying the game you play it. If you're not, don't. There are ancient games I still like to play on my PC; they're never going to see dev ever again. I play them because they're good, not because "there might be some dev for them". I'd play them more if I hadn't already played them to death and remember them too well (age dementia is going to be a bonus for me).

The only people that have legit concerns about ongoing dev would be streamers, since they need a fresh game to play and continue to get viewers. If you're not a streamer why would you care?

I don't think their dropping consoles it's too big an earner.
But current gen previous gen yes. I just don't think they can get it to run on less than say, a 2080 without alot of sliders going downwards.
But atm right now, I think they've bigger hostile takeover fishys to fry

That's a personal question for you. Do you enjoy playing it? If you do, why stop?

All live service games come to an end, this one is no different.
