Companion app

Does anyone remember the companion app? It was released in the very early days of ED and ran on iOS. It allowed you to view very basic details about your commander and your current location IIRC.

Every now and again I think about how useful it would be to able to catch up with the game without actually needing be playing it. Like checking out the station services of your current docked location, make a ship transfer, catch up with galnet, see your current status etc. all ready for when you next saddle-up! The companion app would have been perfect for this, but was never touched since launch.

A missed opportunity? I think so.

Nope what ever they release now will be shown up by the third party sites that run in mobile browsers as long as you not on IOS... The CAPI was expanded to third parties to run companion sites... It also supports consoles users now as well...

Now that nearly all apps on mobiles are electron web shells that just display a web site all that they would end up doing is creating a site that could be accessed by any normal device with a web browser... Aka exactly the same as Inara and EDSM and EDDB...

Yep. The latest version of EDD lets me send the display to my tablet, and to control some of my game from the tablet.

Your comment made me revisit Inara. I gave up on it years ago as you had to manually update it to keep it in sync IIRC. Just logged in again and uploaded my data. Well WOW!! That's sooo perfect!

I use EDSM and EDDB regularly and now Inara as well.

Many thanks for reminding me of it (y)

However, it would still be nice to be able to schedule ship transfers whilst on the bus home... ;)

Console users don't have this issue, remote access is provided by remote access connection apps... Xbox app and PS4 remote play app...
we can access the full game any were there is a supported wifi access point... "Data fees exclude cell connection for most people"... last bus to town center had WiFI on it but I ride blue bus not yellow...
And then we can transfer ships...
See how valves "steam link app" is doing, it was only local access last time i use it but external network support could not be to hard to do as consoles support it..

I agree.

I know it's only one feature but I'd appreciate an ED phone app' that could tell me when people on my Friend List are playing to encourage me to log-in.

Beyond that, an app' that kept us informed of the mission board at our current station (if docked), enabled ship-transfers, helped plan engineering, displayed galnet news and various other things would be nice.
I realise most of this stuff IS available from other sources but that really only demonstrates that it is possible so an "offical" app' fron FDev, with more features, would be much appreciated.

There is an EDCompanion app that I use currently and works pretty well. However, it's not an FDev product. I'm using it on Android.

Yea but Its Inara and EDDB and EDSM data in a shell template...
with even less functions than the websites natively support... it even requires one of those sites logins to work correctly... The last time I used it..

Yup, but it's handy when I'm away from the game and just want to check something quickly.

Do you mean this : EVA
Nope its actualy called exactly what he type "EDcompanion" app on android thats exactly what the reskin is called...

EVA is yet again just another reskin using the exactly the same site data you can get on your mobile by just adding sites to home page on any mobile now...
Compliance with consoles will be required now from any Fdev app released and for most apps that will require using the fdev CAPI which is the same exact data every time now for apps...

I'm a PC player. Those console companion apps sound good.

It'd be a hack that's no better than those skins.
