Compare Market "Feature" broken and apparently Frontier can't bother to fix it.

I was jumping from settlement to settlement updating market data and found the Market Compare wasn't working. So, being a good Elite Dangerous Pilot I collected screenshots and data, then went to the Bug Tracker to report it.
For not the first time I found a bunch of reports marked "Status Expired". So much for having any faith in the company's desire to fix defects. I feel sorry for the Validation Team (if they even have one). As a retired Software Validation Engineer (20+ years at Intel Corporation) it's head-shaking depressing to see these well reported defects being IGNORED.

Why would anyone bother to waste the time to collect the information to recreate bugs in this game? Why would anyone bother to waste the time reporting it? It won't be fixed, it will just sit there until it "expires" and gets dumped on the heap of expired bugs with (probably) thousands of other reports.

Other pilots have suggested I not bother with the Bug Tracker, instead going to the Customer Service Request site. What's the point?

I wonder what will be fixed in this upcoming update? Probably nothing important to the pilots in this game. Probably new features for Thargoids, which Frontier is so proud of.

Who is the Program Director, Customer Service Manager and Validation Manager for this game? I feel so sorry for them. I feel sorry for any customer facing employee. It must be so depressing to not be able to perform the job they should be doing.

Even with the bugs Elite Dangerous is the best Space Flight Simulator game out there. It's just sad they don't care.

The feature does actually work - I use it all the time. It does have a "bug" (or featurette in FDEV speak) in that you only see the market comparison when you go into BUY from the station services menu - if you go into BUY from the SELL screen, the comparison is always Galactic Average in my experience. Just closing the market and opening again you see the comparison using your chosen station.

This is in EDO (LIVE) - not tried it in LEGACY for a very very long time.

This is the sentiment at a business I am aware of as well, where every problem gets the response "open a complaint ticket" yet the previous tickets get returned with "no problem found" over and over, or just flat out closed without an answer.

I've found that at least the business is aware, they do look at the number of complaints/bugs even if they don't budget the fix for this quarter.

Having others confirm a bug does help. Personally I do also use this feature and I've not come across this bug though. I appreciate that doesn't help your experience but you'll need to find others it does affect.

This is more about "what are you reporting".

If it's a general bug like this one, it should either go to the Bug Tracker or to your personal list of "things I put up with while playing Elite Dangerous" or to your personal list of "now I remember why I don't play Elite Dangerous any more" depending on how much effort you're willing to put in and how much it actually impacts your game.

If something has caused you specific in-game loss (a skimmer fell out of the sky and landed on your ship, resulting in a rebuy, for example) then a Support ticket can get you the in-game compensation for what happened, without you needing to figure out exactly why it did that.

(Frontier have recently started going through the Bug Tracker for "this one should have been a Support Ticket" and redirecting them, which is a very good decision)

I can't imagine anyone at Frontier is happy with the situation, but the fundamental rule of work applies to Frontier: if your incoming work stream is larger than your capacity to resolve it, and you can't add capacity, you have to reduce the incoming work stream somehow.

The Frontier Issue Tracker doesn't do this at all well from a customer-facing perspective (I've complained about it at length) but from a Frontier perspective it does basically work: the list of open Acknowledged bugs has been stable at "about 150-200" for years. People get bugs onto that list occasionally, others get fixed and come off it, the total size stays mostly stable, and the bugs on that list are generally those with the highest customer impact in so far as an automated and easily gamed algorithm can determine that [1].

They could get a better bug tracker from a customer perspective which made people feel at least in the short-term that their bugs were being paid attention to, but it wouldn't change the fact that their capacity to fix bugs is what it is, so in the medium- and long- term people would notice that those lower-impact bugs still weren't actually being fixed.

[1] Having the occasional bug reported by someone with ten alts get onto the list is probably less of a problem for them than its suppression of bug reports where the symptoms are not obviously connected to the cause, like the "disappearing planets" bug.

The issue with the comparison "sticking" on Galactic Average is extremely repeatable. Why don't we use the thread we have on this board to report it properly and get ten confirmations? I hadn't noticed the little wrinkle that Fnord mentions above, or the fleet carrier workaround that's in one of the screenshots, so thanks for that, my workaround until now was complete re-selection of the filter.

Meanwhile I love the energy of Happy Daze posting this literally hours after the 17.01 bugfix release was announced... and then the 17.01 fixes include one for the mission screens which is a similar type of UI papercut...

It has been reported - I guess that was Happy Daze anyway, nice work Commander - can some of us here add confirmations (when our universe reappears which I guess is when Zarniwoop gets back from lunch)

"At the same time, the suggested market comparison on the right, should filter for markets one can land and not include 0 Cr or 2 Cr buy results where one can't buy any goods anyway."

YES this is infuriating. I use Inara to check which is just a stupid thing to have to do.

This is the thread you want.

Expired means it didn't get enough confirmation from players... if it's something lots are experiencing, post a report there.

Looks like they fixed a bunch of Thargoid bugs in the update. Yay.
The one biggest bug I've seen from many many people is the NPC Security firing when scanning bug. NOT FIXED. There must have been hundreds of upvotes for this one. But no, can't be bothered, too busy making Spires look pretty.
By the way, this is not off-topic. It refers to bugs not being addressed.
