Compatible Graphics cards for upgrading.

Here's my spec:

Case
CORSAIR OBSIDIAN SERIES™ 750D FULL TOWER CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 Quad Core Processor i7-7700k (4.2GHz) 8MB Cache
Motherboard
Gigabyte AORUS Z270X-Gaming 7 : ATX, LG1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs - RGB Ready
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3000MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
11GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 Ti - HDMI, 3x DP GeForce - GTX VR Ready!

I've completely lost track of the technology so I'm wondering if the current generation of nVidia cards are compatible with my MOBO etc
Looking at maybe RTX 3060Ti or something in the £500 bracket to upgrade my rig to be able to play EDO in VR without vomiting!

The issue I think is the MOBO which is PCi express 3.0, 30 series GPU's are 4.0

Jus wait for the craziness to pass us by. And 3090s will be cheap! Perfect gpu for odyssey vr. Fe runs alot cooler than 3rd party gpus same spec.

A 3060 Ti is barely faster than a 1080 Ti. I'm also doubtful that your CPU is up to task for smooth frame rates in EDO VR.

PCI-E 3.0 is not an issue.

My 3080 struggles with Odyssey, I have to dial down the per eye rendering in Steam VR to stop reprojection which causes a ton of blur. You might get away with less if you have an older res HMD thou. Either way you don't want to be going from a 1080Ti to a 3060Ti, 3080 minimum for you to get a decent performance uplift. You should be able to get used 3080's for £500 fairly soon I'd imagine...

what is your cooler like? I reckon with a nice overclock that cpu has one more GPU upgrade left in it. like others have said i suggest a 3080 or above if you can get one for a decent price.

trusted 2nd hand places (so not eBay) may be ok as people shift stock ready for the 4000 cards.

I have a 3090 and whilst elite odyssey does not run as well as horizons it is perfectly playable.

PS not certain but I think I may have replied to this post on another forum recently :)

It's supposed to be pretty good, I know better are now available and I could do something like this:

I wouldn't know how to OC my CPU so any tips?
