Competition! The First Great Solo Mini-Essay and Photo Competition

So to celebrate our 1000th member I'll be giving away one of these fantastic Elite: Dangerous Zoodies.

It isn't a freebie though, I love word and picture combinations (as you might have guessed the way this has progressed) so... I'm looking at a competition where you mix a picture from the game (your own) and 200-250 word commentary. I'll pick the shortlist (of 20 or so) and I'll see if I can rope someone else into being an independent judge. Admissions must be added to the competition thread in the main page on Facebook (sorry non-facebook users).

An example of the sort of thing I'm looking for:

This is a T Tauri Star. They're not really a class in and of themselves, they're 'Baby' main sequence stars and with this star which has a mass of 0.6 of our own sun and a radius of 0.8, I'm pretty sure it's going to become a K class star.

T Tauri Stars haven't yet started nuclear fusion as a true star would, instead gravity is pulling the mass of the star together and the energy is given by the matter making up the star giving off energy as it falls.

If you imagine yourself on a staircase, to go up the steps you have to use energy (that's why it's harder to go up than go down) whereas if you go down, you actually give it off. It's why if you jump up four stairs and just make it, you make little noise, but if you jump down four stairs you make a loud noise. That's because you've just given off some energy. The process for the light of T Tauri stars is quite similar.

This 'star' is quite lonely, it has an asteroid belt, but there's barely enough mass in it to make something the size of the moon. Fate might swallow it up or throw it out of the star's gravity well.

Best of luck everyone. Closing Date: 03/06/2015

Working on an entry for you now. I'm not part of the team, as I have my own priorities, but I aim to entertain. And I can never pass up any kind of simple language-related contest, hehe. Expect a post there within the next hour or so!

If you need a layman's term translation, let me know, LOL.
