Complete Ground Mission, Assassin Spawns, Kill Assassin, Mission Dissapears from List

I'm curious if anyone else is seeing this issue or if my mind is playing tricks on me.

Twice in the last two weeks I completed a batch of Ground Missions (usually take 3-8 at a time); it was a varied mix of Salvage, Operations, Procurement, and Combat missions. Both times, I had either completed half or all of the missions (but none turned in yet) when an Assassin would spawn and come after me. In every case they would say something like "You've messed with the wrong people. They hired a killer like me to take you out." In both cases, I never saw this update linked to any of the missions in the Transactions window.

In both cases, this bogey was listed as a "Mission Target." In both cases, I let them interdict me and blew them away with no issue. I then got an updated message in the Comms Window congratulating me on taking out the target and having a check box below it. When I clicked on the check box, the message disappeared. More importantly, one of my completed missions disappeared from my Transaction tab, robbing me of the ability to turn it in and make money.

Now I've only fallen for this trap twice. However, I've had at least six other occasions where these guys spawn. I will NOT engage (fight interdiction/run away), even though I want to stomp them out of existence, because I don't want to risk losing one of my completed missions.

Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, do you know which missions are the ones spawning these guys? I wouldn't mind risk losing a mission to document this for a bug report IF I knew ahead of time which completed mission it was going to blot out of existence, but there is no indication of which mission is triggering this lethal response. I actually like the complication, I just don't like losing my completed mission.

So has anyone else seen this bug? If you have, do you know if it is safe to kill the target as long as you never accept the Comm update?

Thought I'd check to see if anyone else is having this before I sacrifice my missions for the glory of the bug tracker....

Nope, sorry, you don't get these while using Apex. But I definitely believe you when you say you might've discovered a bug.
Well it's good to know that at least.

As usual, these assassins are quite comical. The last one I avoided showed up six or so times as I was moving through the rest of my list of missions. Each time his ship changed. While I was in my Mamba, he progressed through the following in order: Diamond Back Scout, Cobra Mk III, Cobra Mk IV, Challenger, Krait Phantom, Krait Mk II, and finally FDL (as I was heading to the station to hand missions in). I've seen hunters like this change ships before, but never in an Always Upgrading fashion. I wonder if I had toyed with him longer if he would've finally made it up to an Anaconda or Corvette. Poor guy. lol

Ok, I've confirmed this bug through my own testing and submitted it: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/47923

If it happens to you, please confirm the issue on the issue tracker.

It looks like this is a "complication" linked to Settlement Raid missions. It only occurs AFTER the mission has been completed but BEFORE it has been turned in. The assassin will keep chasing you until you either kill them or turn in the mission. If you kill them, you will get a message from the mission contact. If you click on the check mark on that message, the message will disappear along with your mission. If you don't click on the check mark, nothing bad happens.

Please note: the Assassin will be marked as "Mission Target". However, you will never see any links between this complication and the mission to which it is linked.

I actually like this complication - revenge for a completed mission - but it needs to be fixed so you don't lose the mission.

If you get one of these guys chasing your options are:
  1. Take one for the team - kill the assassin, click on the check box in the message, lose your completed mission and confirm the bug in my bug report
  2. Take them out and don't click on the checkmark in the message (or don't even open the message); you preserve your mission and you get to kill the pest
  3. Keep running from the assassin until you can turn in the mission.

Apparently the assassins will spawn for missions where you assassinated someone as well. Had that happen yesterday - killed the guy (he had an FDL, I was in my Mamba) and ignored the message to keep from losing the mission.
