Completely unreadable text in DK2

Thanks for the tips everyone, I'm going to see if I can fix the resolution tonight. It will be interesting to compare Direct vs Extended mode.

I play in extended mode all the time. Have to say text in left/right menu inside ship is barely readable...
Can you please explain ho to run in in direct mode?
I couldn't make it work when got the DK2 first day...
Should I change anything else in the settings to make it better?

Do you reset the rift pushing back your head?

Yes in game .There it a reset button I think F12 (I've remapped it) this resets centre. If you push your head back and F12 then sit normally it moves your FOV forwards in the cockpit.

That's ok, I can always lean towards. But the text is really hard to read, even when I have my nose in it;)
I need to check resolution on extended mode in case its something wrong.
How do you make it work in Direct mode?

I have the reset still bound to F12, but also use "reset" in voice attack. Make is so much more smooth and I can hands on throttle and joystick.

This has made a massive difference for me! Its true what Juanlo says though. You should not need to faff with this setting as Elite should read it from the rift setting.

Huge difference for me. I can actually see the screen door effect now rather than just a blur!!
strange, mine was set at 0.0047, while in my oculus json profile it's 0.052 (off by more than a factor of 10). I know E.D. does read the oculus profile though, as changing my ipd there has a noticeable effect to the view in game. Not sure what the IPDamount does, but I'll try this out too.

[EDIT] I'm afraid changing the ipd in frontier made no difference that I could tell.

Supersampling makes things clearer for me but I hear those graphics card fans roaring!

They really need to come up with an extreme AA technique for the UI of the game to make it crystal clear in the rift witout having to supersample everything.

Hmm interesting stuff here. My text at the health Warning screen etc are perfect but the panels/radar/menu screens in the cockpit look like they are made with 8 bit graphics. Not enough pixels to define the text. Leaning in does sort it out but still pretty rough.

I tried the DSR settings but strangely had no effect (besides slowing things down considerably at 4x DSR lol).

Anyone have any tips for improving readability of text in the cockpit? (Almost need the ability to select a different font that is heavier and bolded, more pixels or larger font).

Thanks

I saw a video, I think it was the Connect conference, but it stated that the easiest way to improve text readability is to add a slight border around the text. They gave what color gives the best effect, but I cannot recall offhand.

Sadly, this is something the developers would need to implement.

I recently visited a station where the 3d image of it came up in the cabin in green instead of the usual amber color. It looked much sharper in comparison to the amber stuff around it.

I am sure FD has a particular motif they are going for with the amber interface but an option to change it all or in part to any RGB color would be great and probably help with the text issues. If the display on my $80 JVC stereo can do any RGB color now, I'm sure that capability is available 1k years from now, lol.

Has anyone else seen a green station in the interface? I'm wondering if FD are testing just that out.
