Horizons Completing the Kill Six Skimmers Mission

I am posting this in the hope it will give help to other Commanders who may overlook this mission, or not find a way to complete it in time.

I took a planet-side mission to kill 6 skimmers. Seemed temptingly easy, but where to find six skimmers?

After aimlessly flying across the planet just above 2 km looking for POIs, and finding only rocks to break up into elements with the SRV, I decided to be "brave" and head for a low security post on the planet. Parked the ship just outside the perimeter where they warn you about intrusion (about 2 km, I think) and entered it with my SRV.

Came across three skimmers and managed to take them out, but became Wanted, and was constantly being attacked. No more skimmers could be found. Survived the retaliatory fire (with about 5% SRV hull left), drove 2km away, summoned and boarded my ship.

Where to find the remaining 3 skimmers? And I was now Wanted.

I flew back to the planet base that offered the mission, and was relieved to find I was not Wanted there. Then I thought, what if I go back to the security post I attacked, will I find three more skimmers?

Short answer, when I returned, I was no longer Wanted at that post, my SRV had repaired ... and I did find three more skimmers to fulfill the mission.

So, in summary, if you are Wanted planet-side, you are only Wanted locally, and the status will be removed when you return. If you don't find enough skimmers at one assault, repeat it after a refresh at a local port.

Easy way with no risk and 1 second solution.

Step 1: Equip a missile rack in your ship.
Step 2: Find a POI where there are 2 buildings and 6 tons of TEA in the middle (lol) protected by 4 or 6 Skimmers.
Step 3: Launch a single missile.
Step 4: Look how all skimmers go boom at the same time.
Step 5: Laugh.
Step 6: Check how you received 6k credits and mission completed.
Step 7: Go back to base but try to not miss the landing pad because you will still be laughing.

Profit.

:D

I think there's a bug. If you jump out of a system after you become wanted, the bounty becomes dormant and disappears from your transactions, but if you get scanned by the Feds, it will be reactivated. That's what happens to me anyway.

OK, so yesterday, I too had a destroy the skimmers of a rival gang mission. Mission description said skimmers were at such and such planetside low security outpost, a (+) mind you, not a (++) or (+++).

Easy peasy I thought, so I go there and scout it over, no skimmers. I land near by and debarked in my SRV, dismiss the ship, went in, and destroyed the defenses. Now I am wanted, and still no skimmers came out even after the great intruder alert klaxon went off. Rolled around, all over the installation, accessing the data point relays, the security gird, the power generator, blasting turrets, yelling your base belongs to me, the skimmers never came.

Discovered that if you destroy the last defensive turret the security gird goes in-active and locks the gate to the interior. I now try a rolling boost jump thru the slot between some pipes that looks like I may just fit if I time it just right. No luck, so now I try a boost climb in the SRV up the slope of one of the station walls to the top and into the interior. I ended up stuck on a piling and auto self destruct. That cleared the wanted and sent me back to my ship in low orbit. Super cruise over to the space terminal dock and call it a day.

Next day, I am all set to abandon the mission and take the rep hit. Luckily, I found and read this thread, go back to that planet and low and behold, on my way in I spot a tale-tale blue POI near the named mission installation. I go in, debark SRV, did a little surface mining, and found the security box where there were the mission skimmers. I was able to complete the mission thanks to the tips here. o7

Could we get a sticky in the horizons sub thread with a thread of best tips and practices for planetside missions gleaned from the threads and a separate sticky in the engineers sub thread for best tips and practices for material and data collecting for crafting, and enhancing modules?

Oh and maybe refine the mission blurb a little bit, add "intelligence reports skimmers maybe operating at or near the vicinity of xxx station on such and such planet" to the mission description.
