Hardware & Technical Computer help requested

Hey folks,

Needing some help. i have the following system and i'm thinking about upgrade my vid card. was hoping for some suggestions of what i can actually run to make ED look better.

AMD A10 7850K 4-Core Processor
MSI A88X G45 Gaming Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3
Corsair CS750M Modular 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
Sapphire R7 250 (Crossfired with the APU)

As it is, i'm getting around 10 - 15 FPS on mid settings in station and ""MAYBE"" 25 when in open space/combat.
i'd like to do something that would increase my FPS to something better than what i'm currently getting. i'm not overly savvy in the OC department and don't like tampering with that stuff.
I was looking at getting an R9 270 but the information i was told is that the APU will bottleneck or something and make the R9 useless.

Thanks in advance

Unplug that R7 250 and see what FPS you get, and then disable the GPU part of the processor and see what FPS you get using the 250 alone. I wouldn't expect too much though - it's a weak card with basically no memory bandwidth.

I am pretty sure that crossfire is not helping you at all here either.

yeah. i did the system on the cheap when funds were tight. now i got $$ again, i can splash out and get what i need (want) to make a decent machine. i dont know if i should really go and upgrade a few parts or bite the bullet and get a replacement machine

I'd look for a second hand older midrange card - 3Gb 7950 or so. Not too expensive, and at least 3x as fast.

Others will probably have better suggestions though.

Run 1 graphics device only. Go from there.

I'd go for "sell the parts, keep the RAM and get a real computer".

CPUs get o.k. prices on ebay, gpus are o.k.ish, so are motherboards.

One of my systems is a barebones a10-7850k and 2133 ram with the same motherboard. It plays the game at 30fps with default MID settings @1080p
Not sure how well it work in a firefight, but just fine for mining and trading.

I'm going to put my old 5870 in that system today or tomorrow and will report back. Incidentally I replaced the 5870 with a 290X in another system and frankly the graphics don't change substantially even though I've now set it to default Ultra from a mix of High and off settings to keep the 5870 happy.
Sometimes turning off shadows and the other options can make a huge difference.

The 7850K is alright, it'll run Elite with no problems. As Asp said, remove the crossfire with the APU graphics and just try out the R7 250. An R9 270 will make the game run great though.
