Newcomer / Intro Computer resetting controls, is there anything I can do to stop it?

I have set up my controller 3 times now after something reset it. I have modified the keyboard and mouse setup, and created a custom setup with both being reset. Is there anything I can do to prevent my controller from being reset, other than always keeping the game running? Does anyone know what causes the controller to be reset?

Hopefully someone will come along with a better answer than what I've got, and if not you might try your post in the Support forum.

I know I've seen my controller set up get wiped a couple times because I unplugged the controller while the game was running. So don't do that.

Search for a file called custom.binds in iirc the options/bindings subfolder in the Frontier Developments/Elite folder and rename it to something else. You will then be able to select it in the controls dropdown and it won't be overwritten by a patch or whatever.
