Hardware & Technical Computer Speakers - Trying to decide

Hi guys,

I've been doing some "research" into getting a new set of computer speakers and I've narrowed it down to these 2:

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

and

Cyber Acoustics (CA-3908)

For various reasons I've decided NOT to go with 5.1/7.1 systems (lack of space, tripping over wires etc).

Just wondering if anybody has any insights as to which is "better"? Price is not really a problem, I have read various reviews on both of them, and they both sound like what I'd like to put on my desktop for my gaming PC.

The funny thing is - it's cheaper for me to get them from Amazon (from USA, I'm in Singapore, half a planet away) than if I were to walk into a local store to get them. They're like 2 to 3 times the asking price (after conversion) if I were to buy them locally. In other words, if I bought them off Amazon I'd be getting a 50% to 75% "discount" :D

Make sure you don't get screwed by import duties when ordering from abroad; I don't know how Singapore behaves in that regard, but some countries will screw you hard when it comes to customs or VAT.

This.
Last time I got slapped with import duties & postage, the price of that particular item went up by 100%.
Was still a bargain though. :)

Heh don't worry, anything under SG$400 is tax-free. The cheaper item is about SG$180 including shipping (local price SG$270 in stores) and the Klipsch is SG$250 including shipping (local price SG$350 in stores).

I just have to worry about 110v (USA) vs 240v (Singapore) for electrical items.

I've had loads of different PC specific speakers and you know what? I am currently running an old Cambridge Audio A1mk3 Special edition and a pair of Pioneer CS-343 speakers that had been kicking around in the garage since probably the late 90's and my system has never sounded better, even without a sub or surround sound! :S

Thank you but I'm not looking at either of those 2 you've mentioned :D

No i reckon you weren't, my point though, was that you can't beat choosing with your ears. If it's important enough to ask on here and is going to cost a few quid probably best go somewhere you can listen to your choices and maybe some alternatives you might be as surprised as i have been by what was supposed to be temporary and has been in use now for about 5 years! :D

Yeah well I heard the Cyber Acoustics in person. I just can't find the Klipsch locally near me, although a local store has listed it as being available online. I just can't be bothered to go that far away (half a country away to me, "near" to you... about 15km away).

The Cyber Acoustics sounded like my hifi system, nice clean bass and treble.

I have "heard" the Klipsch via a Youtube video but then again I can't judge it cuz the sound is being played through my current speakers :)
