Concentrated buckyonium

We have discovered a handful or landable planets that actually pass through the particle cones of white dwarfs. Doesn't it stand to reason that such planets would be caked in mineable buckyballs? What if we could surface prospect an unique synthesis mat that would enable on demand 4x boosted FSD jumps?

Not only would this enable deeper exploration on the fringes of the galaxy, it would encourage commanders to seek out white dwarfs rather than avoid them and their huge exclusion zones.

I already use white dwarfs and neutron stars to perform longer jumps. :D

I believe you have completely missed the point. OP wants shiny from rare neutron systems for superjumps on demand, away from said systems.

Interesting in theory, but in reality people would probably just dump anything else, and do everything in space-gobbling ~200ly jumps.

Hello, Roboteconomist. :)

That's a very interesting idea. Given the nature of such environments, I should think the entire surface would be both immensely toxic and thoroughly coated in interesting materials, not just a few mineable rocks. Moreover, the planet's passage through a dirty great blast of charged particles might be enough to periodically bake up an atmosphere, highly volatile, but equally chock-full of interesting things.

FD might not want to put so much into the game though: it would be a lot of work for a rare edge-case situation. On the other hand, such a rarity could be a usefully naturally-difficult-to-reach tool for introducing new tech to the game. We might be wise to revisit these places again, as and when new updates come our way. :)
