Concerned about South America

I would be very surprised about the sloth. Like vetgirl says, its movement and behaviour is so unique and different that I just don't see them putting in the time to make it work in the game. Maybe for a payed expansion, but even then, I'm not sure if it would work out.

Otherwise, OP kind of forgot the galapagos tortoise, which is a full sized animal from South America (kind of). I think it's possible that they save South America for an expansion, but with the zoos-around-the-world-thing they announced for the story campaign, I expect that we'll get a couple more - jaguar, giant anteater, armadillo, nandu, tapir, capybara, mara, some kind of new world monkey (howler, saki, tamarin...) are all possible options, though I don't think any of them is a shoe-in. Well, maybe the tapir, but due to the colors, I think the malaysian tapir is the most likely tapir species, which is obviously not South American.

Naked mole rats
I would love a Colony of these. But I think a bigger Terrarium would be needed

dung beetle
Can't wait to have a Terrarium with dung beetles in a Toilet-Building 😂

giant salamander
I think they are way too big and should be added as a Animal for big Exhibits

There are also except the Saltwater Crocodile no Australian Animals. I hope we would get some more Animals from this Continent too and somehow every Zoo Simulation has no European Animals except the Ibex (and some extinct Animals in Expansions)

I wouldn't be too concerned. You can pretty much see the game's development cycle based on the animal releases. For instance when the game was first shown off it was almost entirely African animals. This is likely due to the fact the game was conceptualized under the "Planet Safari" idea, then later expanded to other regional animals. We then saw a slight "North American" animal section with Wolves, Bears, etc. Now we are at what I call the "Asia" phase where we have Tigers, Orangutans, Indian Rhinos, Snow Leopards, etc. if I had to predict what we'll be seeing around September is the Tundra/Outback section where they'll show off Kangaroos, Polar Bears, Penguins, etc. South American animals are likely to happen just won't be revealed soon. As mentioned with the Indian/African themes, they don't seem to even have a "jungle" biome ready yet (which is why animals like Orangutans, and Chimpanzees are in unrealistic Savannah style enclosures in footage) but I'd expect it before launch. I don't expect too many large South American species (probably why we have a lot of terrarium creatures) but I still at least expect Tapirs, Jaguars, and Giant Anteaters, potentiall even Llamas/alpacas. Just give it time like I said, they just seem to be building the game in regional "chunks" with each info dump coming with 5-6 animals of a given region, some new map/building theme and images.

Tapirs where mentioned

With the new Gamescon animal reveals, we know 32 of the 50ish animals that will appear in the Standard Edition of the base game. I've noticed a somewhat concerning trend that I wonder if anyone else has seen.

We now know about 8 small/exhibit/terrarium species, and so far all 8 of them are found in or near South America. Likewise none of the full-sized animals are native to that region. From an ecological standpoint I understand this choice; the Amazon rainforest is the most diverse ecosystem on earth but is mostly filled with mid- to small-sized animals. Nonetheless, let me explain why this trend is concerning from a design standpoint.

I like to build my zoos in biogeographic areas, grouping African, Asian, and North American animals (etc.) in their own sections. Instead of building one massive herpetarium or insectarium for my small animals, I hope to fit small animal enclosures thematically in between big enclosures within these regional sections. At the moment we have no small animals to represent any region except South America. Assuming that small animals make up no more than 15 out of 50ish species, we will be lucky if we get one small animal for every other region of the world, especially as there are at least a macaw and a sloth rumored but not yet announced that will make still more small animals for South America.

I hope that the remaining small animal announcements will include some geographic diversity. Where are the king cobras, emperor scorpions, scarab beetles, Burmese pythons, gaboon vipers, goliath frogs, or any of the other famous small animals of the world? Moreover, where are the large anchor animals for South America, like jaguars, tapirs, spectacled bears, or giant anteaters? At least one would make a solid basis for a complete South American zoo section. As it currently stands all of my small animals will end up in a single South American house, and the rest of the world will be megafauna only.

Alright, I'm off my soap box now. Tell me if you've noticed this and what you think about it.
I think they want all the african animals done for the beta so we can do some kind of african themed levelso they are mainly revealing african animals
