Concerning video cards

I have been playing Elite Dangerous since Release in 2016. In fact I purchased a computer to play it on. An AMD 4 core 3.8Ghz processor, 8 gigs of ram but the video card is where it fell down. R7 200 series. It was definitely better than the laptop I had been playing the other game I play (The Golf Club). And it wasn't bad, so I thought. Sure, I would get 14 to 16 fps inside the stations, but in open space I was getting 29 to 32 fps. I was also using 1280 x 768 on a high definition monitor with native resolution of 1920 x 1080. But this was all I could really afford. I got the monitor on sale. The CPU fan of the one purchased in 2016 finally gave up the ghost and I replace it. I was looking for a budget computer with a better graphics card and finally had the funds to buy one. Barely. Same processor (I thought but just now went to my system properties and found out it's a 4350 running at 4.2Ghz. I thought it was a 3.8) and memory but with a Radeon RX 460.

I installed the game and clicked play. I had seen on game-debate.com it recommended 1600X900 resolution for this card. I figured I'd try 1920x1080. I couldn't believe it. Crystal clear graphics running at 60fps even inside a station. The menus take it down to 35 to 45fps, but when actually playing it's like a dream. R200 series fooey, this is the man, baby!! :D

When I loaded up the Golf Club, I had been playing on low quality at 1300 x 768. The game set it at high quality 1920 x 1080 and that was the same. Difference was between night and day as well. Buttery smooth and clear crisp graphics. I don't know how I played these games with that old... uh, thing. Only caveat I have is know the difference between DVI and HDMI. I ordered an HDMI cable with this one and it was fine. Until I tried to hook it up to my high definition monitor. DVI input only. So I paid a bit extra for an adapter. But it's really worth it. And no, the RX 460 doesn't have a VGA port.
