The Conda doesn't fly through asteroid belts the asteroids ask if they can get warm by wrapping themselves around it.

It's what happens when you drop out of SC then fly to a ring or a different ring, in normal space; the rocks aren't in your instance because they only seem to spawn if you exit SC in that particular ring. Ship/game apparently can't switch frame of reference without SC (not surprising since these things move far faster than the ship can in normal space) and the game doesn't just destroy you for touching them.
