Configuration Hotas very difficult

Dear Frontier Developers should make an effort on the pre-configuration of the Hotas that are compatible with this beautiful game, many beginners abandon the game in the early hours because it is too complex to configure, this is only my opinion ^^ For example the Logitech X52 (pre-configured in the game) is incomplete ^^

but the X52 already is pre-configured
C:\Games\steamapps\common\EliteDangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64\ControlSchemes
(your instal folder\EliteDangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64\ControlSchemes)
ED already has a lot of configs for many game controller\hotas

iirc you just need to connect the hotas before launching ED and it recognises the hotas.. you might need to select the config for your device in key bindings.. its been a while since i swapped sticks. once you launch ED check the keybings and you should be able to see which buttons bound to which control.. imho youll still need to do some tweaking though

oh makesure youve got the drivers installed .. youll also find there is also a profile pack you can download from logitec\saitek which has an alternate config for ED that can be loaded into the x52 profiler

Thanks Fonglonger, All this I know but I said in my previous post that precisely the pre-configuration offered by the game is incomplete ^^

manually some settings must you make

has 1000s of key binds ED required you make
no bind config will all satisfy

not the trading ship you looking for you is maybe?

It's not really the fault of the game. With the number of switches, hats and buttons on an X52 it is complex to set up and learn anyway. The basic settings are all there, and the ones that aren't set are optional anyway. I played with default settings on my X56 for a long time before I was used to the location of all the switches enough to know what I needed where.

What I want out of binds is not the same as what someone else wants. There can be no "complete" configuration.

Sure, but there are many useful assignments that are not in the default presets. Target next system in route for example and I think UI Nested Toggle is still not in the defaults I have looked at. One thing that I think would be great to be in the default is having the FSS tuning, movement and zoom assigned to the mouse (I still have trouble setting that up!), making FSS use all one-handed.

Probably at years end I'm getting a HOTAS. I really love the look of the X56 but every review I read about it they say it's crap and falls apart. Care to weigh in on that?

It's lasted a lot longer than the Saitek X55 that I had. However, that is due to me becoming proficient at repairing it (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4986606). :D

As a HOTAS it is great - the configuration options and numerous buttons and hats are great, and nothing comes close in the price range. But I must agree that the build quality leaves a lot to be desired (though I should also note that I work my HOTASs hard). Mine is coming up to 4 years old now, and I've had to replace two switches (not surprising - the components inside literally cost pennies) and the plastic surround (per the Thingiverse link). Breaking the plastic surround is only due to my heavy handed flying though. Another Buckyballer has done the same! :ROFLMAO:

I have been running X-56 for years and have not had any hardware issues. When the X-56 was first released (the BLUE ones) were terrible. Since then, Logitech bought them and released the GREY ones, with the fix to wiring and since then, no issues.

I even thought I had a Stick problem so I contacted Logitech for an RMA replacement. They told me to keep my old set and recycle it and they sent me a new set.

As it turned out, there was nothing wrong with my old set, it was a computer USB issue. So, now I have two sets. One I use and one for backup.

Of course, there will be a lemon set once in a while, as with everything made, but since Logitech bought them from Mad Catz, no problems.
