Hi

So Solo isn't getting Carriers. Confirmed on the Live Stream by FDEV.

This is a travesty and I hope for all the solo players, this terrible decision is reversed

Presumably Private Groups will - and, as everyone[1] can create a Private Group with only themself as a member, I don't see a problem here....

[1] edited to add: everyone who has multi-player access and has not already created a Private Group and permitted other players to access it.

Solo currently doesn't have a lot of things. No different from before the announcement of Carriers as a "thing".

Fake news.

If anything, this confirms your disconnect from the reality- which is just as your chosen avatar suggests. :)

The 'problem' is that access to carriers is going to be stuck behind a numeric squadron size wall...so even moving to a Private Group, the carrier is unattainable...and could be unattainable for long term groups that have many players on sabbatical...

I'm not sure about the size of the 'problem' personally, it is no different than any other guild system out there....

On the other side of the issue, I see nothing in the updates that are addressing the problems our PVP players are bringing up....so they are going to be shoveling salt quite soon, as well!

Initially, maybe - however at the end, a Squadron is not going to be disbanded unless *everyone* leaves.

I'd expect that there will be those that are quite happy to join a Squadron to facilitate the acquisition of a Carrier - then leave.

But would a Solo player desire to do this? Will a solo player be able to grind out the mats/collectables to move the carrier? <shrug> Still a lot of questions. The problem for solo players is that they cannot buy a carrier without a numeric wall to climb over...which is antithetic to many Solo players.

Aye, I've done it in many MMOs in the past, I'm quite happy to join a group for the purpose of making up numbers.

So my services will be available.

Crikey Powder, posts like this from you and similar from Algo and others really does emphasise the gigantic amount of backside pain you suffer by choosing to play Elite Dangerous, hope your respective GP's get that easing cream for ya soon.

:D

Still no discussion on how the modes will change for this update! That means 'No news is good news' for the PVP players!

Did anyone notice the lack of video proof of the OPs claim?

It's not like it takes years of training to cut a snippet from YT and post it here.
And you'd think a PvP'er with some info to throw at PvE'ers would have grabbed it and started smashing people in the face with it.

I'd like a time-stamp please.

But only for confirmation. I think it's pretty good if true.

Yeah, Powerplay has led to a lot of great PvP for me... Not all pew-pew either.

Right, here is the information OP was "bragging" about.

It's about 2 minutes worth of information (starting around 39:00 if the like doesn't auto go there).

Let's keep in mind, nothing is stopping Solo players teaming up (via social media / forums etc) to help each other get a carrier.
As long as there are a few folks willing to jump from one Squadron to another, sooner or later, Solo players could have them.

They will just need help from temps joining their Squadrons.

I am a soloist and even when in Open I never engage with others. That is just how I am.

I do not care at all whether I can buy a Fleet carrier on my own.
Not being a multiplayer guild/fraternity/club/group type of guy I even think it should not be possible. That is perfectly fair I think.
These ships are too big, too expensive, and they are designed to facilitate player group game play, a type of gameplay interaction I am not interested in whatsoever.

I do hope that I will be able to see these ships in Solo mode. I want them to be part of my Solo universe to add a little bit of new visuals. That way a soloist like me gets something out of it too.
I hope the fleet carriers differ completely from the mega ships. I would like there to be a few unique designs.

Thats the one thing I don't understand.

Why would you want what's going to be a glorified guild hall if you don't have a guild?

From the few reviews I have seen.. all suggest "Squadrons" are the ED equivalent of guilds.. yet they are stuck at 250 members.
