Conflict zone missions

Jumped into Ciguru on the tail of a wanted criminal and noticed a low intensity conflict zone in the Navigation console. Interesting I thought and reckoned I'd go have a look later. First went to dock at the outpost in the system and while there was offered a mission to destroy 8 Warzone craft in the conflict zone. Great I thought - might as well make some money given I was going to go have a look anyway.

Cruised out to the CZ and instead of the raging battle I thought I'd find, instead it was just about 20 local system ships of various types milling about. Was a bit confused as to what to do next. Did I have to destroy 8 of those? This didn't seem very likely in my little Viper :)

Nothing much was going on so just to see I picked on an Eagle at the back of the pack. Started shooting and the whole lot turned on me. Was lucky to escape intact.

Quickly dropped into a nearbly USS and a chap offered me a counter mission to kill 4 Traders. This seemed like better odds and in the next USS there was a lone Type 6. Killed that but it didn't seem to count against the 4 trader kills I needed for the counter mission.

So went back to the outpost a bit bemused as to what I was supposed to be doing in either case.....

Yes....sometimes different factions in a system get a little terse with one another; they're all flying the same (local) ships. i.e. "Security services" in eagles/cobras/'condas.

Tip: they all pay 3k per head. Don't waste time shooting a big one unless it's hull is <30%.

Ah cool. Does it matter which faction you pick as far as the mission goes? I.e. do I need to side with the faction that owns the station that gave me the mission?

Depends which faction's rep you're trying to increase.

But no, from a mission perspective, oddly, either appear to work.

I also went today again to the warzone in Wolf 359, i was there yesterday, also today no hostiles, or they just did not care to shoot at each other, killed 6 eagles (that were not green) and handed in the mission. So far i have not seen a warzone were there is war, i think there needs to be some tweaking, i would suggest add some Borg Cube to Wolf 359 but oh, wrong universe :)

I also was in Ciguru low intensity conflict zone yesterday evening. Interestingly I did go I to "pick faction" and the only option was Ciguru Republic party. When I looked at the mission it did not state to kill security vessels or rebel ships , it stated to kill warring ships. However as the original OP stated even with picking the above faction there were no dogfights going on just about 20-30 ships milling about. This made me suspicious so unlike the original OP I did not start firing because I thought what happened to him, might happen. As to how you complete the mission or who you are meant to be shot at without 10-15 of your targets allied ships turning on you I am not sure......I wait for an answer hopefully from the forum.

Another Ciguru regular here!

I decided to get stuck into some combat today (having always run before! Hey, I've only just beaten the one on one sidewinder tutorial ;D), and took the warzone mission.

I too found many "Local Defense Force" ships, some Green (Friendly) some Orange (Neutral?).

Google brought me here as I tried to resolve my confusion.

So, in the interests of SCIENCE! I attacked an "Orange" Eagle (Expert, Clean - he was the weakest looking target I could find).

I was anticipating every gun turning on me. Or at least all the Orange ones. Or maybe Orange would kick off and Green would come to my aid (I had factioned up with Ciguru Republic Party when I arrived).

Instead, just the dude I fired on "went red" on me.

There followed a 20 minute dogfight (I'm using the sidewinder with some upgrades to test the waters - replacement cost = 5k if I get blown up), but I eventually got him! Checked in transactions - yep, 7 Targets for mission, one kill counted towards total!

Ulp. The next Eagle is deadly (I've bested a few novice and harmless wanted types (all NPC, I'm getting my practice in SOLO), and one Expert with the help of the local law enforcers (ok, I kill stole it from them!).

In very short order I'm out of shields and down to 44% (He was down to about 80%). Time to light up the FSD and get out of there!

So, give it a try, hopefully you'll also find they come at you one on one!

Me, I'm off back to kill steal pirates from Police Vipers until I get the hang of it ;D

PS: Oh, yes, and I didn't get any fines or wanted status, either!

I had the same thing mate. Lots of green and a few yellow. Targetted one of the yellow ones assuming all the others would then go hostile but no, I could happily pick them off one by one.

Seemed very odd for a 'conflict' zone! :D

Same experience as you guys, got a missions to go hunting in a warzone, went to a high intensity conflict zones with ships just milling around. I changed faction to the only one available then started shooting the yellow ships. They don't turn hostile till you shoot them and they're marked System Authority with no factions.

This happens in a system when the civil war is between two corporations from the same faction i.e two Federation corporations in a state of civil war, in the conflict zones no one actually shoots as they are all Federal Navy Ships or System Authority ships.

This question might fall into the "Captain Obvious" -category, but if I side with feds does my rep with Empire start to go down after each kill and what not?
