Conflict Zone Tactics / Advice

Hello CMDRs!

I'm new to participating in CGs and just started playing the Quivira CG.
Does anyone have any tactics or methods they wouldn't mind sharing on how to get the most out of engaging/profiting in Conflict Zones?

Thanks!

well it's about staying in there as long as you safely can, as returning to station = less profit/fun
so if your ship has spare space, carrying several Shield Cell Banks is a good idea
turn them on/off as they get used up, don't be afraid to use them when taking a serious hit as death's worse than spending cash on ammo ;)

but also remember that if you do die, you lose all your combat bonds, so don't be afraid to get out of dodge and hand them in so they are securely banked
so it's a trade off

don't fight ships on your own! never be out on your own, stay near allies
go for an enemy at least 1 ally is already engaged with, safer, saves you effort

weapons with low ammo counts aren't a good idea, alas
I run 2 medium cannon 1 large cannon and 2 pulse lasers on my python, the three cannon together do a hell of a lot of damage so I do get good enough time in combat with them, usually save them for power units of larger ships, or when things are hairy ;)

if in my Vulture it would 2 gimballed pulse lasers or a gimbal beam laser and gimbal large cannon

honestly I play in solo for this CG because too many CMDRs, more profit because less people

and yes make sure you have a shield bank cuz in a conflict zone things are very pew pew pew

I basically look for the biggest enemy ships on the contact list and then go for their power plant on the subsystems menu

what are you flying? I'm in a Vulture so I use 2 gimballed size 3 pulse lasers, good for shields and best laser vs armor

I stay out for as long as I have extra shield banks to use if anything bad happens

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah I've been trying to target mostly larger ships, but after I kill all the Pythons/Anacondas, they seem to never spawn back and I'm stuck chasing after everything else. I guess I was wondering if the spawns are different between Open and Solo/Private.
I just upgraded to a FDL from a Vulture, and just using all G/F pulses with stacked shield boosters. My shields rarely go down, but would you recommend shield banks or a little of both? I've never used them before..

I agree with everything you said accept the highlighted part. I run one gimballed beam and one gimballed pulse. Believe me, the beam does way more damage against armor / subsystems.

Per MJ the pulse is the best laser weapon for subs and armour. Your beam is chewing through that power much quicker than the pulse.

Meh, one beam one pulse works great. (you do need an A-powerplant an distributor though) Two beams would take too much power indeed, but one beam, one pule is ideal imo.
Mind you, I have flown for a while wielding dual pulse lasers, but in my current setup I take down anaconda's quicker. For the way I fly and fight it;s the best setup, but your mileage may vary ofcourse.

I like having both shield boosters and packs. Shields are life!

Other than that, the advice in here is all good! It's easy to get "padlocked" onto a particular target, but of you aren't making quick kills, you're not profiting. Keep your eyes on gimbals to make sure you are prosecuting the juiciest targets only. If worst comes to worst, you can exit the CS and come back to "re-roll" the NPC's to suit your style better. You'll never "solve" the conflict (at least I never have), but you can make a lot of credits blowing up things in space.

1: Always watch your sensors, make it a reflex action to check them once every 3-4 seconds.

2: Always stay with the group, being alone will get you picked on by an entire fleet if you are unlucky with the respawns.

3: Always watch your power settings, make it a habit every 3-4 seconds, if you're taking fire run 4 pips to SYS, 2 to WEP if you're not taking fire run 4 WEP, 2 SYS. Charge the ENG Capacitor only when you've depleted it; you shouldn't need boost much in a warzone anyways.

4: Kill the big stuff 1st, then mop up the smaller stuff in priority of size descending.

5: Bug out if you're getting creamed (or it looks like you might), running low on ammo or if the spawn values has dropped, you can always come back and the chances are better of getting more big game in a fresh instance.

6: Always watch your sensors, get used to checking them every few seconds.

7: Always stay with the pack, you'll draw less fire.

I know 6 and 7 are actually 1 and 2, but I thought that they are so important that I had to state them twice.

Happy Hunting.

^excellent post. Spent the entire evening in a conflict zone, and what Yomamas is saying here is pretty much all you need to remember.

1. Beware hollow red triangles.

2. If you want peace and quet and to avoid hostile CMDRs, go to the conflict zones that are furthest away from stations.

The most dangerous, peristent and annoying NPCs in Conflict Zones are... Eagles.
A few of them on your tail and you'll be under constant fire. Never underestimate Eagle NPCs in Conflict zones :D

:D but I hate the Vipers more, especially the wing of three that sometimes occurs. The Eagles at least explode in a few seconds. The Vipers tank too much to instantly destroy them and change to boom and zoom as soon as they lose shields. They cause me much more distraction as they tend to use mirrored armor in addition and I run my rather slow 5 laser Python ^^

Elite Cobra's are the hardest to kill. Think they must have mirrored armour or something!

I also think they do. The only Cobras I actually target the PP ^^

From the couple of times I've tried a busy goal in Open, friendly fire is a huge issue. Basically, one stray shot at a same-side player and you're suddenly red to every CMDR in the instance.

In Solo, I favour killing the big ships (Asp or larger) because they're high value, and the little ones (Eagle or Fighter) because they're quick. Cobras offer the worst value-for-time, taking awhile to take down, and if you're in a slow ship Vipers aren't much better. Asps offer very good value if you target their power plant for a quick kill.

If shields is about to go down, SC out and SC back in again.

Probably the most important one imo. All other points are circumstantial.

I don't understand how everyone is loving Conflict Zones for Money making. I just tried it in my Vulture myself, went to a High Intensity Conflict zone, chose FED side after getting my ass almost handed to me the first time I chose the rebel side (Capital ships do hurt quite a bit), but most of the kills were stolen by the NPC's. Am I doing something wrong? I did chose a faction on the right hand panel.

Well, it's probably that capital ship, that handed you your ass last time. Now it's on your side and it's killing LOTS of NPCs very fast, which is why I tend to avoid CZs with capital ships in them, no matter whose side they're on.
