Conflict Zones: Do they change reputation?

So I have yet to encounter a system with conflict zones, and from what i've heard, for some reason there's literally only one system with them, Eranin. All the searching i've done hasn't shown any others. (If you can point me to a list of known systems with conflict that'd be radical). I was considering making my way over there because i've been making considerable profit from bounty hunting in my eagle, and I seem to be skilled enough in combat that I eradicated a player in a cobra who interdicted me and tried to kill me for my cargo (I didn't have any. He was a rather stupid pirate. I'm amazed that he was unable to shoot me down actually, given his ship is spades more expensive than mine)

My question is this: My reputation with the federation right now is unfriendly. This isn't intentional, it's just the issue players have been reporting where failing a mission moves your reputation down collossally more than completing the mission raises your reputation up, and I encountered a mission that I literally could not complete because the system it took me to did not spawn any unknown signals. Partially I want to go to conflict zones to make money, but I also want to get my reputation with the federation back up. From what i've heard, when you arrive at a conflict zone you choose the faction to fight for, but when you kill the opposing ships does your reputation rise with the faction you chose and lower with the faction you destroyed?

Also: What the heck is a distress call? In the FAQ I kept seeing "Conflict zones and distress calls" in a lot of posts, but i've never even heard of a distress call other than there. Is it a feature that wasn't implemented?

Conflict Zones that I know of: Eranin, Dahan(same conflict as Eranin), Lugh(player made event), Sorbago(slave revolution), and Jera. There might be more that I don't know of, and the Eranin/Dahan one might be almost over or already over(I'm not sure, haven't visited since Beta 2).

Bounty Hunting is quite tricky right now, and if you just shoot down any wanted person you will most likely quickly loss Rep with their faction. The trick right now is to check the wanted person's faction and see if they are allied with the Federation, Empire, or Alliance(depending on which Allegiance you want to be friends with). To check their faction just go to your left side panel, contacts tab, and select their name. Note their faction and then go to your right side panel. Their if you scroll down where they give you the system's local factions, the factions allied with an allegiance will have that allegiance symbol next to their name. Don't shoot these guys down, shoot the ones whose faction is not allied with the Federation/Empire/Alliance.

If you are good at combat and can stay for a while combat zones can earn you some money, not much, but money. Its better to stop at the local station(or a nearby system if a station isn't present) that gives you a mission to shoot down x numbers of ships at a combat zone. The mission will give you more credits.

Yes, when destroying one side at a combat zone you lose Rep with that side, and might gain Rep with the side your fighting with.

Definitions:
Conflict Zones: a zone of conflict between two or more opposing factions/sides/allegiances
Distress Calls(AI only): a ship distress call that is calling for help against the ships enemy forces
Both of these have combat, and you can chose your side.

Edit*: The Rep system is broken also so it is hard to get Rep back. The Federation's Rep system is working better than the Empire's Rep system, and I haven't heard anything about the Alliance's Rep system.

Fixed for 1.01.

Bounty hunting now gives you rep for the faction issuing the bounties. Same with whichever side you pick in a conflict zone. But because of a UI bug, positive rep isn't show but you're still getting it. This was posted by one if the devs on another thread but I can't remember which one.

As for a system with a conflict, look on GalNet. I think it's called Sorbago. Can't remember off hand as I'm at work. It's the place to be though. A whole bunch of conflict zones as well as some capital ship battles.

At Starhunter, I appreciate all the information. A lot of that was pretty helpful. I'm aware of the fact that each NPC has a faction and i've been checking factions before I just go and shoot down the enemy, so I know the loss of rep isn't coming from them, it really is just the way missions are glitchy and difficult to complete making me lose rep when i fail them.

Distress calls i'm guessing are randomly located, unlike conflict zones? Do you recieve a comm from the AI who is sending out the distress call or is it just like unknown signals, where you see them and boop them.

Missions due seem to be doing that. Thats why I avoid accepting any hunt pirate/bounty hunters/trade ship missions.

You must be near a conflict zone/distress call in order to see it in your navigation tab. I know in Eranin at Eranin 2 there is a conflict zone and a distress call. You can't see either until you get close to the planet. Besides that, I haven't seen any random distress calls in a system that isn't in a conflict. I'm 50% sure though that they aren't just limited to a system in conflict. So yeah, it's like an USS(unidentified signal source).

These conflict zones seem to be moving around depending on galactic politics, because I have been searching around Eranin and can't find a thing. Looking at GalNet for Sorbago, it seems even that revolution has died down. My only qualm is that a combat specific ship such as an Eagle or Viper needs to be built for the fight in the system you are fighting in. Otherwise, you may have a very long way to go to get there indeed (if you even can) due to short jump ranges.
