Conflict Zones: Dreadnaughts

Through conflict zones and other game interactivity there is currently nothing more impressive than the Capitol class ships. however when you get to the stage of owning Cutters/ Corvettes the awe is lost as the relative size is much smaller. not to mention that with a bit of patience these ships can be soloed pretty easily.

In order to restore that feeling of awe once more, I suggest something much bigger, harder and more terrifying. Dreadnaught Ships!

In quite a few Si-Fi Games and movies (like Mass Effect, Star Trek: Into Darkness and now Star wars) The Dreadnaught outclasses the typical capitol in terms of armament and size.

In Elite, This could be incorporated into the next level of Conflict zone difficulty (such as HAZARDOUS) where either there are multiple Capitol per side or a single Dreadnaught per side. Because currently Conflict zones are not much of a challenge even in HIGH RISK there is low risk to high end players. Also would provide a fantastic Wing option too!

Dreadnaughts span 2-3 times larger than standard capitol. with more heat cells and weapons than the standard ships too. The core of these ships also must be taken out as an additional option for something different.

In non-conflict related interaction such as Thargoid aftermath, players can fly full lengths of the ship to collect military themed cargo and materials. just another nice backdrop with proof that the Thargoids are incredibly dangerous no matter the size of ship!

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Ingame perspective:
Building such a ship requires an incredible amount of credits and time. Look what it takes to repair a station in the paliades. And as you've already written, Thargoids can easily destroy it. So why should you design and build an even bigger and more expensive ship at this time? If not better than the smaller and "cheaper" current ships. When it comes to surviving and fighting Thargoids.

You could build them as an Singel large wapon like this:
latest

Thats an artillery cruiser from the game Dreadnought
And this weapon is also capable of effectively fighting thargoids. I mean, even if it is not an AX cannone. NO Thagroid survives a hit from a cannone with such caliber
Nothing could survive that.

My perspective:

I want them!! NOW!!!

Bigger capitals would be nice, but battlecruisers were historically already the joint largest capital ships in the oceans (joint with the dreadnoughts themselves), so it wouldn't make sense for them to relegate them to a second rate ship. Historically, the largest warship in the world for about 20 years from the early 1920s to the early 1940s was actually a battlecruiser. It would overall make more sense for the Feds to simply design and produce a newer, larger class of battlecruiser. If anything, I think CZs needs some intermediate capitals, such as carriers and regular cruisers, to add variety and to make capitals more common. They could even make some kind of semi-capital ship type that is fully mobile like a regular ship but still not usable by players, which would function like supercharged corvettes and cutters in combat.

Yes. We have a number of corvette class ships (Corvette, Cutter, Anaconda, T-10) and we have a couple of battlecruisers, what we need is everything else in between: Cruisers, Frigates, Destroyers, etc.

I would love to see the current battlecruisers really fleshed out and finished, and then all the other genuinely BIG ship types added in.

The Farragut is titled as a battlecruiser.
If you want to fight properly you need more than just battlecruisers, corvette and assult ships
You need frigates, destroyers, cruisers, and carriers. And you have to combine them properly to form a powerful fleet.
In addition, they should ONLY make for capital ships SLF who act more like bombers. Killing shields easier
My suggestion would be that frontier makes smaller ships like cruisers. These should occur more often than the current capital ships. And should integrate more in the combat zone
