Conflict zones

Can anyone tell me how to tell the good guys from the bad in conflict zones? Every ship I target comes back with something like "system defence" even between two ships that are shooting at each other.

There's not necessarily a 'good' or 'bad' side. You have to pick the side you want to support via the 'Functions' tab on the right hand panel. After you pick a side, then enemies will be highlighted.

You need to choose a faction from the right hand UI panel...

I think it's the "Control" tab - first item should be "choose a faction"

Choose a faction and the enemy will be red, friends green. Most will be authority vessells of one faction or the other.

In the conflict zone I went to, there were 2 sides, system defense force, and alliance defense force. I didn't know about the functions tab either, I just decided to shoot one of the systems defense force eagles, then the rest of them turned red
The other side did not turn green though.

To be honest there isn't a great deal of info about how to deal with conflict zones so it's easy to miss. I've been in since Alpha and we were told about how to select factions when they were introduced so we take it for granted. I guess the devs do too, after all they've been involved in ED longer than we have!

I think there should be a thread in the Newcomers forum titled "Things we forgot to tell you!"
