Newcomer / Intro Conflict Zones?

Hi all,

I am not exactly a new player but I am pretty new to combat - have mostly run away up until now. I started some combat last weekend and really enjoyed it. I understand what I am doing with bounty hunting and the KWS but I really don't seem to understand Conflict Zones, can anybody explain to me?

The first time I got a BB mission for a CZ and flew to one in the right system. There were obviously two distinct sides - one red and one green, no problem. So I went into the zone and managed to kill the required number of ships. I was enjoying it and so stuck around for 30 minutes or so after completing the mission and blew some stuff up, I was thinking I would get some kind of reward for doing so - at one point something about a Combat Bond flashed up in the top right corner. After I'd killed a few additional ships I flew back to the station to hand in the mission - mission completion was no problem - so then I went into contacts to cash in combat bonds. There was one combat bond for 140k which I swear was what had flashed up previously. It seemed I had got one reward for killing 20 or so ships. Am I missing something? I didn't choose a side in the right menu if that might be the issue - the ships were already either red or green when I arrived. How much would you expect to get for an hour in a CZ? How do Combat Bonds work?

The second and subsequent times I have gone to a CZ all the ships show up as yellow (maybe orange) and all seem to be part of the same faction. Everybody is flying round and round in circles and nobody is fighting. What's going on there? I tried three or four different Zones in at least two different systems and it was the same every time. I did go to the right menu to try to choose a faction but it wouldn't let me do anything (I assume I should be trying to change the "none" at the top of the last menu where it says "faction"?)

Sorry if this is a wall of text. Would be grateful for any help.

Some combat zones seem to be bugged and dont let you choose a faction (or have only one faction available). Perhaps you stumbled upon one of those.

Found this because I too went to CZ after CZ, high and low, searching for a fight to complete a BB mission... tons of ships, no fighting at all. All the same faction... ? War over? Then why is it still a "high-intensity conflict zone"?

I noticed this "no conflict zone" thing in a system where the opposing faction had lost all influence, it was at zero. So all the factions with influence were on the same side.

You are probably already doing this, but when you first drop into the CZ you need to choose a faction.

It's on the right hand panel, under the functions tab. The first option is 'Faction' If you are not in a CZ it says none, but in one, clicking it will pop up a menu with two choices. Pick one and half the dots will turn green and the rest red. Fight the red ones :)

When I find a new CZ I first go to the station near it to see what the minor factions are. Are they allied with a particular major faction? Handing in the combat bonds will effect your rep in that system.

Oh... check faction second. First, deploy hardpoints. :)

I was actually just about to make a thread about this, myself. I've been quite frustrated. For several days now, I've been trying to figure out how to get into a conflict zone battle, and it seems pretty easy -- hey, there's a Low or High Intensity one, lock destination and go! I get there, and all the ships are milling around flying in formation with No Faction, and I'm not able to select a faction on the Functions UI, either.

I figured surely I'm doing something wrong, and have been searching high and low for answers.
I found a bug thread about it from March 31st. But no real answer. And I found another thread dating back to Oct 2014 about the very same bug.

Is this something only affecting a few people? Since I don't see a massive outcry about people not able to participate in warzones. Or does it only happen to a few locations?

I had accepted a mission, Target type Warzone, I'm in the system where it says to go... and there's only two Low conflict zones in the whole place. I checked both... just No Faction System Authority ships flying around, no fighting, and I'm not able to choose a faction. Like I said, I've been trying for days to find a system that actually has a battle raging... but it's always this.
On top of that, not being able to complete the Warzone mission actually causes a rep loss with the faction I'm trying to gain with. :\ It really shouldn't even allow you to accept missions like that if there isn't actually a fight going on.
