Confused about earning merits

Is the only way I can earn merits by hauling 10 things to somewhere else every 20mins?

I've been in conflict zones all day killing enemies of my faction and its really fun and not bad money. But I haven't received any merits for it.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'm a bit unclear on this myself, but I *think* you can go do conflict zones in expansion systems, and then turn the bonds into the local Power rep, to get combat merits. Ima try it later today.

I doubt that but that would be great.
I too miss a way to get merits through combat.

The onyl thing possible seems to kill innocent couriers (civils) or steal cargo...

I've been viciously attacking federal agents and couriers (npc) for Zemina Torval and I get 15 merits per kill, but yea obviously this is getting me a higher wanted level.

I think it depends on your power. If they take over by force, then look at the expansion tab for systems to go to. Any in there will have a 'warzone' (or something like that) to go to. When you drop out of FSD you immediately see red and green, no need to assign allegiance. Did this earlier, great fun, however on return to a controlled system I submitted the expansion vouchers and I earned merit points (about 27 I think), but only about 10k credits. I may be doing something wrong though.

Arissa Duval's expansion method is by killing npcs in conflict zone, then turn it to her contact in a "Controlled" system, cannot be anything beside controlled system.
I took down 30 ships (all ships no matter the type will give you 1 powerplay bond (or something like that), but only nett about 46 merits. Im not sure what affect the merits i got when i turned it, the potential CC might affect it, hasn't test it yet.

Something I was thinking about, why is it not possible to earn merits for Li Yong-Rui's exploration faction with you know, exploration? Something simple, like 1 report = 25 merits, should be easy to implement. And that's still a hefty 400 systems you need to explore to even reach the tier where you get a bonus to exploration pay-out. So no balance problems.

(Also it's kind of strange how the power play-system makes sure most of Li Yong-Rui's most likely supporters won't ever be able to support him, due to being far away on expeditions through the unknown. Someone clearly didn't think this through.)

I advice look the power play tutorial videos,,
another small advice everything depends on the power you are pledged to will give you different tasks. Good luck commanders
