Confused about why I'm getting attacked by the Imperial navy...

So, I'm in Empire space and am currently listed as Friendly with them. I've done a couple Empire rank missions and am currently at the Serf level. I have no bounties and I'm listed as friendly in the system I'm flying. Can anyone please tell me why Imperial navy ships are attacking me on sight?

Prolly because your ship is too pimped.

Pimping is illegal in Empire unless you are a registered Imperial Pimp.

I was told that Empire was pro-pimp. If this is not the case, I don't know if I can remain loyal to them.

If this is how they show their gratitude after all I've done for them, I feel a piracy spree coming on...

Are you in a system with an active conflict zone? Are you just getting a high number of interdictions, or are they actually shooting at you? Is the faction for the ships harassing you a minor faction that you've off by doing missions that lowered your rep with them? You can be friendly or even allied with the main faction, and still end up with someone in the system unhappy with you if you managed to get a bad rep with them before starting to improve the main faction rep.

I've been dropping to USS's. And every now and then Imperial navy ships are there flying about. Once I drop in, they almost immediately deploy hardpoints, give me a cheesy line of text and start shooting me to pieces. Almost lost my brand new Asp yesterday... As far as I can remember they didn't belong to any minor faction of the system, but had something like Empire "xxxxxxx" or Imperial "xxxxxxxx" faction name to them, that I haven't seen anywhere else (I've just been in a couple systems). In the past they have interdicted me, but haven't started shooting at me. Now it seems things have escalated...

Ahh! The USS are a whole different ball of wax. Do you by chance have a rank advancement mission for the Empire that's active? In some cases, you have to go chase down some rogue officer/ship and kill it, and they'll jump you regardless of your faction standing in some cases.

Even without the rank missions, dropping into a USS, especially a strong signal source, is an open invitation for whatever NPCs spawn in it to pick a fight with you.

I don't have any rank missions active. It still feels strange to have Empire ships attacking me when I'm going out of my way to please the buggers...

Guess I just have to deal with it.

If you have taken a kill Gen. xxxxx mission they appear to be broken.

Clean federal drop ships will keep hounding you in USS until you kill one. Just pay off the fine and cash in the mission, it will complete after you kill the drop ship.

As long as they're not giving you any grief when traveling normally in Imperial systems, you're ok. The USS system still has a few quirks in it, and at times appears to be marching to the beat of a different drum.
