Confused By Mission

I picked up a mission that entailed getting "further instructions" from a comms buoy or something like that when I arrived in the target system. This changed the description of the mission (I thought I was just delivering goods). Now I'm supposed to find missing trade data. I must search for signal sources (in Dahan if anyone is curious). My "Target Body" is a moon called Jonty's Claim.

I'm at Jonty's Claim, but there ain't no data jumping up and down yelling "come collect me!" My question is, do I need to find this data on the moon itself, or somewhere in orbit? If it's on the moon, do I need an SRV? I don't have my SRV right now...

I don't want to waste hours looking in the wrong place. Thanks for any tips you can provide!

IIRC you fly around the destination looking for unknown signals or something like that. I hate those kind of missions. If I was you I would abandon it. Stick to haulage and data deliveries for easy cred.

Normally, if you have been given a planet as a target, if you stay in supercruise around the planet, a mission related signal source will appear, can take a couple of minutes sometimes though. You shouldn't need to land. You will need to enter the signal source and use your cargo scoop to collect the trade data. The mission should then update telling you to take it back to the station you got the mission from.

Meso.

Fly around and look for "unidentified signal sources" or "weak signal sources" or something to that effect and jump into them. What you're looking for will probably be in one of these (be weary, you may also be jumping into an ambush!).

If you don't see any, just fly around the system and keep your eye on the systems panel and when you see one pop up, select it and go to it.

If I am understanding correctly, you should just fly and orbit around Jonty's Claim and wait for the signal source to spawn. Usually the mission related signal sources show up as blue so you can tell the difference from normal signal sources.

Probably the above, but if it is a planet based site you may need to scan the system. Do you have a discovery scanner?

Got it! Circled a couple of times around the planet in supercruise as suggested. This is after restarting the game to get it to recognize the servers again. There's some bugs that need to be squashed, I think, but I'll enjoy it anyway :)

It's what budstud said, with any of those types of missions you'll get an update once you're near the body the uss spawns at telling you to search there for it, if the system is empty keep flying around honking your discovery scanner to find new planets etc until you get the update in your coms panel, once you've got it you just need to keep flying in the vicinity until the uss shows up, you'll get an alert for it and it's easy to spot in your target panel, you can ignore any regular uss spawns as you won't find what you need there but they can be good for picking up easy bounties.

yeah - those missions blow - i stay away. Circling around in space looking for a haystack with a needle in a system full of haystacks...pass.

And they didn't even pay much! I love the missions where it's like, "deliver two tons of coffee and we'll pay you 100,000 credits." The way I'm feeling right now, I might pay someone 100,000 credits for coffee ;)
